Kitten Ate Mangrove Leaf

Has anybody experienced this with their cats? I cannot find anything online if it is toxic or not. I called the emergency vet and they don't know either.

I saw that. The closest was a kitty nobbling on leaves but not eating. I am pretty sure my kitten ate some of the leaf.

Disclaimer: Not a vet, but in my experience with vets if there's no money to be made in solving the problem, there's money to be made in prolonging it...

I searched the toxic/non-toxic list for cats and mangroves didn't come up.

I searched the toxic/non-toxic list for cats and mangroves didn't come up.

I found the same. I just wish it was a clear yes/no.

Try searching “mangrove toxicity”. Seems to be some possibility of leaves exuding a white sap.

IMO you are probably ok. Probably chewed on it for the salt content or just trying to get your attention. If toxicity was an issue, Hemingway probably would have way less than 52 cats...

My cats would chew on the leaves, if they ate them, they usually vomit it up like all the plants I've tried to keep. My cats also used to chew electric cords, snap right in half, but never got zapped.

Luckily, my cats don't chew on electrical cords. However, plants? We have to keep either fake ones or have those put up to where they can't get to them.

Good point! Interestingly enough, we are going to meet his cats (descendants) this winter!

Well it has been more than 12 hours and kitten is doing fine. She's running around, chewing on me, and chasing her cat sibling around.

Now I have to go put a fence around my aquarium today.

I am pretty sure you can use the leaves for tea even. Might double check that.
