I would say if you love the skimmer, don’t worry about the lid for that chamber. That’s what I did for mine.

Or of course you could just cut a larger opening

I haven’t even tried the skimmer. Lol. Picked it up on the local forum for $50. Can’t beat that. I was worried it might not fit at all so did a quick test fit. Just the lid doesn’t go on. Not so bad. Or, like you said, I just enlarge the opening a bit to fit it on.
