has anyone ever tried putting a klein butterfly in an overflow? would it work? my overflows are choked with aiptasia and ive been trying to figure out how to get them cleaned up. thoughts?

Probably not the best idea. You will stress the fish out and it will likely not be interested in eating. Can’t you just drain the overflow and physically clean it out? I’m thinking a scraper and shop vac oughta do the trick. Maybe coat it in peroxide for good measure after physically cleaning it all up.

Good luck with that, lol. My overflows and sumps are riddled with aiptasia. Well one overflow is clean, as a proper lysmata bogessi (peppermint shrimp) is chilling in the overflow and has been for close to a year.

i tried dropping peppermints down there but no sucess. maybe i should try again. i just wondered because ive got a damsel thats been living in the one overflow for quite awhile- by his own choice

Turn off the return pump. Siphon water out of the overflow. Even better, you could use the shop vac to suck all the water out. The whole point of an overflow box is that you can drain it without draining the whole tank. So if you get a leak in your drain, it drains the overflow box and not your tank.
