I just placed an order for a Klir DI-7 Floss Roller for my Waterbox 230.6. I look forward to getting it installed on the system but need advice on the best configuration for it. The Waterbox sump has dual 7" filter sock holders that are in a cascading configuration. The water MUST go through the first sock holder before going under a baffle and the up and through the second sock holder.

I have come up with 2 configurations that might work, what are your thoughts?
- 1. Filter roller in first sock holder with either sock or media cup in second. In this config, the roller will clog faster and need changed more often.
- 2. Filter sock in first and roller in second. This would extend the life of the rolls but still require sock changes regularly.
- 3. Purchase a second Roller and run a dual roller setup. This will extend the time between roll changes and keep the water the cleanest, but I can't get a 2nd roller for a bit.

Let me know your thoughts. Thanks in advance!

I would use the first holder and leave the second open.

If I leave the 2nd sock holder empty, it would be too loud. The water cascading over into that hole without a sock or filter floss would make a lot of noise. I could leave the first one with no sock and it would not effect the noise at all.

same difference just use one. The second filter level isnt required. I have just my main display and one frag tank going through the Klir. The other two frag tanksand the algae scrubber dump directly into the sump. The water in all of the tanks is very low on debris.

You can buy a 7” cap to cover the second hole. I think Klir sells one that you can adjust to balance the flow.

@lpsouth1978 please keep us posted on the Klir. I’m thinking about buying one as well.

Due to the design of my sump, I am unable to cap either hole. With the cascading filter socks, the water Must go through the filter sock holders, there is no way to divert it.

I actually Love the Klir. The one I received had the original, 3RPM, motor, but Coralview sent a replacement, 11RPM, free of charge, and the Klir has been working flawlessly for almost a month now. I just use my media cup with filter floss in the second hole to keep things quiet.

it fits perfectly in the first chamber and makes zero noise.

Hi, any follow up updates? Looking at making the same edition to my 230.6 and a klir-4 with standalone on my sca 150

I do have 2 Klir-7 filters and I did have them both installed while I waited for the dual connector to arrive. I ran them both for a few weeks and they work great. But I ran into some hair algae issues with having low nitrate and phosphate so I remove the first one and used the mesh sock that came with the WB-220.6. So far, so good. P04 is now 0.04 and nitrates are still low to undetectable but the hair algae is almost all gone or dead.

Side note: you will need to be careful with the Klir controller. They are not built to last long and I would have liked to have seen them with push and twist connectors that were water resistant.

But when they are both installed they work as described. Water stays crystal clear and once a week (yes, maybe once a week) there is a light buildup on the glass that annoys me and I am compelled to clean it (I have tank OCD and I am not on medication).

When I remove the sock or only run one Klir. The tank make zero noise. I did have to adjust the return volume, but mine is dead silent with or without.

If you are using the refugium and debris clogs the screening teeth at the top of the divider, it will make some noise. I use a dish brush (only for the tank) to remove the debris and its dead quiet again. I have to admit, i'm not use to a quiet tank. For a while, I was always checking the return pump to see if it was still working. The only noise I ever hear is the Trident running a test and i am the only person in the house that can hear it. (Did I mention I have Tank OCD and I am not taking medication?)

@Johnny Anderson thanks alot! Looks pretty straight forward. I have my reservations from the reviews but trading frags for the klir di-4 tomorrow so might as well give it a shot and see how I like it. Much appreciated!

Any updates? Are you still using only 1 klir?

What did you end up doing, and how is your roller working?

Its working well, sometimes too well. I only wish the controller was built better. They feel really cheap after a you've had it for a few months. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it does not get wet on the inside.

Currently, Im only running one KLIR and a 7" media cup filled with bio balls. I am having to dose nitrates now to keep the tanks nutrient levels stable. I removed the chato because it was doing it's job coupled with the klir my readings were constant (0) zeros. I think I have now solved my issues. One would think that with 7 tangs, 10 anthia's, a few wrasse and one chromis my nutrient levels would be through the roof. but that is not the case.

Thanks for the update. I bought a DI-4 for a new tank that I am setting up, mainly because I didn't want to mess with the filter socks. My sump has the cascading filter socks and was trying to decide if I should spend money on a second one, but it sounds like I should be good with one.

Are you running the Klir in the first or second chamber?

I had it in the second chamber while I was watching my P04 and N03. I had to start dosing N03 because I was not getting a reading for a long time and my corals were not coloring up. reds, greens, purple and yellows all looked faded and just not healthy. coincidentally it was time to change rolls and I was too busy to take the 5 minutes to do it before I left for the weekend and just threw a sock in. Got back sunday night, went straight to the tank and low and behold. the tank looked amazing and full of color. my youngest said it looked like a box of skittles. turns out, they work too well. if you've been using it for a few months, you may have figured this out already if your testing regularly.
