Hello, my name is Justin... First post here goes.
So I'm using the Kold Sterile filter system to filter my tap water. (I like it for the fact of speed of making water and NO waste). However, I'm starting to wonder how clean my city water is when it comes to the elements we don't like.
I had an algae out break a while back and I traced it back to my kold sterile making water that still contained phosphates through the roof. >.64 So I replaced all 3 filter media and I also run Phosban in the center chamber inside the fabric sock. I'm convinced this filter still leave certain dissolved solids including phosphate.
Any recommendations on what else I need to supplement this fresh water making system without throwing my Kold Sterile in the garbage?
Run a phosban reactor on the fresh water drum? booo
Add some additive to the freshwater to remove phosphates?
Add a "kati ani" filter after Kold Sterile to further clean? (I can't find these units and not sure if they clean phos)

Thoughts?
Thanks

kat ani filters remove phosphates and silicates and makes the water pure to 0 tds.Your current setup leaves that stuff in the water. If you cant find a kati ani filter you might wanna try making one

Kold Ster Il systems will not produce 0 TDS, they only remove certain things. Phosban depends on multiple passes through the media or long contact times to work effectively, you either need a huge deep bed of it or it must have multiple passes through the media if it is a small amount. Or you can slow your water treatment to a slow drip so it gets more contact time.

I would never trade a good RO/ DI for any other form of treatment in this hobby, too much is riding on the water quality.

Even adding kati ani, or DI which is what that is cation resin and anion resin, to your system isn't going to solve your problem as your filter is passing too much through that will quickly exhaust the DI resin. Get yourself a handheld TDS meter such as the HM Digital TDS-4TM and watch how your filter performs at different flow rates and with different medias tacked on. I think you will be disappointed.

I used Kold-Steril for a while. It ended up being a phosphate disaster...I ended up with PO4 readings of 1.18. I highly recommend going with RODI. You can get a good 200gpd system and use the waste water for washing clothes or some other purpose so it isn't wasted.
