I was wondering if any of you could help me ID what my Kole Tang has come down with. I've had him in the QT for a bout a week now and the patches on the skin have shown up in the last two days. Any ideas?

Bacterial infection. I would use Furan-2 and/or Kanaplex. For the widest possible spectrum of treatment combine the following: Furan-2, Seachem Kanaplex, Seachem Metroplex.

Thanks Humblefish!

I have Seachem KanaPlex and Seachem Metronidazole on hand, but not the Furan-2. I also have Seachem Paraguard which states is for bacterial and viral lesions as well as Ectoparasites. Would you suggest I use that in place of the Furan-2?

Thanks!

I was also wondering if the bacterial infection spreads easily to other fish or if it may be isolate to only the Kole Tang. I can easily treat him alone or all other fish in the QT if warranted.

I've only used Paraguard as a standalone (and wasn't impressed), so I can't say whether or not there would be interaction issues with Kanaplex & Metro. My advice is to begin dosing Kanaplex & Metro (might be good enough without Furan-2), and look for Furan if you can.

It depends on whether it is a gram positive or gram negative infection (impossible to say without a scope ID). Most fish's natural immune system can usually ward off gram positive infections; whereas gram negative can easily spread to other fish and kill without prompt antibiotic treatment.

Thanks again, Humble. I'm going to start treating only the Kole Tang with Metro and Kana. I'll leave the other fish in the QT for now and treat only if/when they show signs of an infection.

Thanks again for your help! I really appreciate it!
