Whenever my clean up crew dies off the hair algae is the only algae to come back does a yellow eyed kole tang or a bristletooth tomini tang eat hair algae? Either will go in a 60g and once they grow a bit can go into a 125g.

Not the best. They are film/slime/detritus eaters.

What tang could work in a 60g for some time that could help out a fish that last 2 to 4 years is ideal but if it only gives me 2 thats fine?

For hair algae, get a foxface or lawnmower Blenny
I struggle to find small foxface or healthy lawnmower blennies in my area maybe I can find a decent laenmower blenny but a yellow tang won't work?

Get some urchins or such then. Urchins are fantastic.

Those smaller tangs are not the best at hair algae...sometimes a person gets lucky but don't count on it. They make some big poops to feed the gha instead ;)

Could always order from live aquaria divers den

I haven't found lawnmower blennies, despite their name, to eat hair algae. Rabbitfishes (like foxface) or Zebrasoma genus tangs are better at it.

Urchins, as suggested, might be something to try. I like the big Mexican turbo snails.

I know that coral beauty’s and sail fin tang eat hair algae off the rocks you could try those if you want to get rid of the algae

So one of those baby yellow tangs?

Is the 125 gallon already setup? The problem with most tangs is they need ample swimming room. The recommended tank size is not purely based on size of fish. Urchins will mow hair algae down. If you have HA everywhere then a sea hare will make short work of it.

What kind of urchins if I may ask? Or does any urchin types are guaranteed to eat algae.

My old kole would and my current scopas does. They help but won't destroy it. I have a big pincushion urchin that will leave a gha rock white! My foxface isn't what I would consider a good rock cleaner but it's so greedy getting fed it's probably not hungry enough.

I haven't owned a long spin but if you can find a big pincushion that's what I'd go with. Pencils have been good as well, but the pincushion at the size of my palm leaves a rock white!

I has been up for about 2 months and I was given the okay to hand off anything to that tank.

i had a black longspine urchin for like the first year of the tank and that dude was an algae eating machine. but he also got too big for my 50 gallon tank and became a bulldozer of SPS frags, so i took him to the lfs. i went a few months without urchins and my coralline algae really started to grow along with some other weird algae so i caved and got me a couple more urchins. a tiny ora blue tuxedo and a larger halloween one. the tuxedo doesn't seem to be quite as active, but he's so tiny i can't complain. the halloween doesn't seem to be quite as good as the longspine, but he also hasn't bulldozed anything yet

How long can tangs go without dried algae I will feed them frozen mysis and hikari marine carnivore pellets for now? I picked up a small yellow and a small kole tang.

Why can't you go to the grocery store and get some?

Kole tangs don't always eat nori. If it takes it, great.

I will always recommend nori for tangs, but if there is plenty of other food, they will survive without it, as long as they are getting plenty of food, including veggies (marine veggies) in some form.
