I just pulled the trigger on a 90 cube (30*30*24) build that I'll be migrating into. I currently have a standard 75 gallon, which is about the minimum for smaller tangs. I've had my Kole tang for almost 3 years, and he owns the place.

How happy is a kole tang likely to be in a larger volume, but shorter length tank?

Well, usually for tangs length of swim space is what we try to provide, and I'd usually advise one of the smaller bristles if adding a new fish to it, but understand you've had it for a while and hard to let go.
Hard to say, in past similar situations I did the less selfish thing and rehomed to friends tanks.
I suppose you could try it out and see how it goes, but you may end up needing to catch it later.

A kole can easily go in a 90 cube.

It might be a little aggressive to New tank mates

I have a kole in 3 foot 57. It went crazy after I put in a coral beauty but was fine with me adding yellow tang

He already bullies the clown fish if there's no seaweed in the clips at the opposite end of the tank to where the clowns hang out.
I guess it's more a situation where I already know my answer, but was hoping for a way out.
