Kole Tang -- Is this ich?

I bought a kole tang yesterday and put it in my quarantine tank. I kept the lights dim yesterday so I didn't see any problems, but today with the brighter lights I noticed a lot of white bumps on its head. He's swimming normally, and is eating fine. Is this ich, or something else?

Possibly Lymphocystis. It's a viral infection that has no cure. Just keep the fish well fed with vitamin enriched foods, and pristine water conditions.
Other thought would be some sort of bacterial/fungal infection. Are you running any type of meds?

I would do a 5min FW dip to check for flukes first.

+1 ^^^ on this suggestion by @HotRocks. Always, always a good idea to do the freshwater dip. It gives very helpful information for any new fish. But the cottony looking puffs/tuffs would suggest Lymphocystis.

Did you ever find out what this was on your Kole Tang. I have similar white bumps on mine. Can’t even get close to catching him. If it’s sonetjjng I can treat in tank or not with prazipro. He shows no symptoms or flashing scratching but had these same white bumps on him.

Yes, it turned out to be HLLE, likely caused by an activated carbon filter in the HOB filter pump on my quarantine tank. He survived but has permanent scarring.

Hmm... I’m not familiar with that disease but from reading about it doesn’t seem to be tbat. I have a few more pics but kind of blurry. But sure it’s not ich either. It’s on the side of his body also and one of them is like it’s dangle from a string on him but still attach for more than 24 hrs dangling

Looks like possibly flukes or some sort of worm.

Have you done a 5min FW dip to see if flukes are present?
