I just purchased a Kole Tang and he has been in a quarantine tank for a day. He has 4 or 5 white pimple spots on his side's. I'm thinking it's some kind of fluke problem. Would prazipro be the best 1st course of action? Fish is not scratching against anything at this point.

Sounds more like ich or velvet to me. Can you post a photo of the fish?

Did it have any spots before you added it or did they appear quickly?

Do the spots move? Flukes will slowly crawl over a fish. If the spots are stationary, I suspect ich or velvet instead.

Ill try picture tomorrow when lights come back on. Spots appeared quickly, didn't notice any in store

Spots don't appear to move. Was only one last night. Now 4 or 5. Should I go with carmine then?

I would do a freshwater dip to actively see the flukes as they become opaque and detach from fish after few min in freswater. if there are flukes thena couple rounds of prazi if not then you can do a copper treatment or other to be safe against ich or velvet. lately I've added a few bristletooths to my tanks and many came with flukes.
a round of prazi willa lso help with other external and internal parasites.

Given that there's almost as much velvet around as ich these days, and TTM doesn't really help much (or, at all) with velvet, I'd probably use some form of copper or CP as my go-to, rather than TTM. (Even if you're not like me, and TTM works well for you . . .)

^^ I agree copper or CP is probably the route you want to take here, but I'd like to see a photo of the fish to confirm ich or velvet as the diagnosis.

White spots are gone and pale areas on skin is all that is visible right now. Pictures I take don't show pale areas. I would guess it would be the cyst stage of ich I saw and not flukes. Is there any place to purchase CP? Thoughts?

If you had a choice would you just go ahead with Cupramine or is it worth the extra legwork for CP?

CP can be very difficult to obtain, as most vets are not familiar with fish diseases and/or CP.

I would go with copper - but a chelated copper product such as Coppersafe.

Thank you and to all of you who replied. Can prazipro be used with coppersafe as a preventative or is it best to use it after?

Although it is always best to dose medications separately, Prazipro can be used in conjunction with copper. The main thing to watch out for is a bacterial bloom (cloudy water) because that can reduce available O2 in the tank.

the water is getting cloudy and I’ve added an air stone. Is this adequate or should I change water?

What is the ammonia level? You can do a water change just be sure to add the coppersafe to the new water before it goes into tank ( whatever replacement dosage is).
The airstone should be fine if there is no ammonia.

There is no ammonia at present time. Using a brand new Sea chem ammonia badge since I’ve read copper throws off ammonia tests. Thank you

How cloudy is the water?

Light to moderate cloudiness = OK

Severe cloudiness = Do a large water change ASAP
