Kole tang swollen stomach/bump.

So mine is doing alot better. The bump is gone and he is a pig with eating again. I think what happened to mine is I had just added a nem and he kept messing with it. A nem sting has paralyzing affects so I think he had just eating, got hit by the nem and could digest. I'm glad he is better and I hope yours is doing well also.

I'm glad yours is doing well! Such good news. Mine still looks the same but doesn't seem bothered by it so I'm hoping it is nothing serious. My system in a FOWLR so no corals that he could have messed with.

Thank Bruce. She had become one of my favorites as well.. Extremely active and always swimming around in the open all over the tank.
Didn't have the knowledge, tools or the heart to dissect her open and see what was actually swollen inside, but it had gotten pretty large, almost golf ball size; perhaps a tumor like @Humblefish had correctly diagnosed a while back.

That’s unfortunate, sorry for your loss :(

This is so strange. I had a Kole tang several years ago. Same thing- swollen abdomen, hiding a little more than normal, then abruptly died. I wonder if it is something specific to this species not fully understood yet.

Resurrecting an old thread as I just notice this on my Kole as well tonight. Any more insight or treatments? Looks as OP filmed and described.

unfortunately I wasn't able to figure out what the issue was and lost the tang. I treated with metroplex and focus in DT and had no change. My only other suggestion would be to maybe try to treat with trifecta (furan2, metroplex and kanaplex) just in case it might be infection related, but I doubt it.

such a bummer. It's my favorite fish and feels like just waiting for the inevitable :(

Thanks for the reply!

Bumping this up. Koi tang has the same thing bumps on both sides. Has always been an aggressive eater but the past few days nothing at all. I can see him thinning out. Have had this fish over a year. Not sure what happened. I'm assuming he is a goner just a matter of time.

Mine is still alive, very active and lost the bump a long time ago. I suspect it was as others have said - sand or some normal affliction based on grazing.
