Please help I purchased about a 3 inch Kole tang yesterday while I was at the store I noticed one little white blotch on his side had thought it was just an imperfection. Got the Kole tang home and put him in a 29 gallon qt noticed that the white blotchy spot has gotten way worse and is now all over him the store I bought him from used copper in all of there systems which is probably why it was not very noticeable until he was taken out of copper. Now I am also noticing big white circles on his fins not like ich or marine velvet (I’ve dealt with marine velvet) can someone please help!! Bacteria infection? Flukes? HLLE? He picks at the rocks when he doesn’t see my but I haven’t seen him eat any of the food I’ve put in and he has some weird twitching thing that he does?

Blotches on both sides and around the bottom of him the bottom is the worst

That fish’s fins and mark look to be bad infections.

Source kanaplex, metroplex, and furan 2 asap and treat in that quarantine. Get rid of the rocks, get some dr tims and some faux sponge for bacteria to look colonize for cycling purposes.

Dip in an acriflavine product asap for a head start.

Thank you I was almost positive that’s what it was have you seen this bacteria infection before? What medication would you suggest that works the best?

I don’t have any of these products on hand do most lfs carry them? Have never really had to look for it before

I appreciate the help very much guys does it usually take a while to clear up say if I only used kanaplex, metroplex, or furan 2? I will be going to the fish store at around 5 not sure I’ll be able to get ahold of any Acriflavine not really sure where to find it at? Can’t thank you guys enough I’m hoping he can pull through

You need acriflavine for the head start this could be a gram negative infection based on the progression you’ll need to yesterday to save it if so. Keep in antibiotics for 10-14 days.

Those three antibiotics increase the odds they kill whichever bacteria you have, in other words it’s a broad spectrum of meds.

Your lfs should have Ruby reef rally. As @4FordFamily said, you really want to do the bath. That could make or break the entire healing process.

Regardless of instructions on bottle, don't stop after 2-3 doses. Continue antibiotics for AT LEAST 10 days...Even if it starts looking better. 14 will probably be your best bet. If directions say dose every other day, do so. You may need to do waterchanges every second day before doing next dose if you're having a bacterial bloom(cloudy water)

Can’t thank you guys enough you’ve been huge help been racking my mind all day and night trying to figure out what it is and I will start this tonight around 5 or 6 anything I should be concerned about or look for while doing the bath?

Just make sure temp and salinity match the qt. That's all I can think of

Sorry about all the questions man but last question lol should I mix up some new saltwater or just use the qt water?

New saltwater can be a bit harsh on fish. If you have some already mixed, that's what I would prefer. But tank water will do when in a hurry. One less thing to think about when things are urgent. Time is your enemy. . .

Good afternoon,

I can’t expand on what others have said other then feeding. If he still is not eating, try soaking your food with garlic guard. When my tangs caught this they wouldn’t eat either, but once I started with the garlic guard, they ate small amounts. It gradually became more and more, but it sparked them to eat. I would also try just hanging some seaweed in there. Tangs love nori.

Thank you Sarah I’ve been soaking his food in garlic extreme by Kent caught him nipping at some leftover food on the bottom of the qt. Just grabbed some kanaplex and metroplex from the lfs although they did not have any Acriflavine so the bath isn’t a option until I found a store that has it. Is it okay to mix both kanaplex and metroplex togethor? Do I need to pull out the live rock?

Antibiotics will harm the critters living in the rock which will cause a die off and perhaps a nasty algae bloom (hazy water) in your tank. You can however mix food + Focus + Metro + a bit of water together to treat your fish. Small servings and some keep a turkey baster handy to suck up the leftovers to prevent the mix from falling apart and thus releasing the Metro into the water column.

Do you suggest adding it to the food and leave live rock in or just pulling it out and treating the tank? It’s gotten pretty bad since yesterday feeling as if I should just pull it out and treat the tank?

If I do decide to pull the live rock out is it okay to mix the two antibiotics?

Better to treat in a QT without rock or sand. And to use the trifecta of metro + kanaplex + furan2 for nasty bacterial infections
