I came home today and found my Kole tang in rough shape. I fed this morning before work and it looked completely normal and ate quite a bit. When I fed this evening I noticed it was hiding in the rocks breathing very heavy. It’s been in the display for a few months and looked completely healthy. I qt with copper and did a fresh water dip to check for flukes before moving to the display. I put a small mushroom in the tank 2 weeks ago that didn’t go through qt so I thought maybe velvet? I just caught him and he’s pretty beat up, but think that may have just been from the rocks he was hiding in. I fresh water dipped and didn’t notice anything fall off, but it looks like there’s a bit of a bulge in his belly, but it’s hard to see in the pics. He poops pretty regularly when I feed in the evenings, but I noticed it’s more liquidy, definitely never white and stringy though. I’m not really sure what to treat with, any thoughts? This morning he looked and acted completely healthy, and currently the other fish look perfectly normal. Got him in a quickly setup 10 gallon qt right now.

Looks like he hurt himself in the rocks. I would soak food in Selcon or Vitachem and watch him to make sure it doesn't turn into an infection.

I agree with @blkhwkz. Just try to feed him well and give him some time to recover. If you QT everything with copper, you shouldn't be having an issue with crypto or velvet. Those spots look more like physical damage than disease.

Any nems or stinging corals in your tank?

Ahh, yes, I have an rbta and a few torch corals, maybe they caused the injury? I didn't realize they might be able to do that much damage. He's looking 90% better this morning in the QT and swimming around fine, so must've been some temporary injuries. I didn't realize something like that could cause such heavy breathing and labored swimming. Maybe I pulled the trigger a little early on getting him out of the DT, but had my doubts he was going to make it through the night. I'll feed him some selcon whiles he's in QT and observe him for a week to make sure he heals up before I drop him back in the DT.

Sounds like a good plan. You’ve got him out, might as well give him a little time in the QT to recover.
