Kole tang

Hey Steve - when was the last time you saw you tang eat? Did he eat when he was in the main DT?
I worry that your approaching the point where if you don't get it eating soon - it won't matter about the ich.

If you get him eating - fine proceed, otherwise you may want to tink about dropping the copper before starvation sets in.

Friday was the last time.. I feed twice a day. So he has another chance today.. today was the second dose of Cupramine and he seems to be more active but does not like the light being on.

Fridays not so bad...I thought it was longer.
Copper is one of those threatments where there is not much room between an effective dose and a lethal one.
Its very common that it interferes with the fishes appetite, sense of smell, balance and osmotic balance.

Sounds like your on top of it...good luck.

Even compromises immunity to an extent.

Yes it does. This is one of those treatments where if you run copper and the fish dies - ich killed it - but if it lives - copper saved it.

Even Burgess speculated that many of the saves attributted to copper were actually the result of the fishes own immune response - the fish would have lived anyway.

Copper knocks down the number of theronts poking holes in the fish until its immunity catches up...same as dilution.

I don't think the 65 is to small for a kole at all

This is making a lot out of a moot point at the stage, but…

Do you think a 55 gallon is fine for a Kole?

I won't say your a bad person if you do, but I hope you don't. I think we would be very very very very hard-pressed to find any Tangs dying of old age in 55 gallon tanks. [emoji6]

This "65" is literally a 55 with about an extra inch on the top.

This is a short term solution tho - not permanent.

Oh shoot Matt - I've got a fowleri in my 400 - he'll max out a 20" - but he's got a good home for now and I'll find him somthing suitable when the time comes...if not...my wife doesn't use the pool as much as she used to...

This got off subject.. and tank size short or long term isnt a issue.. I said I was upgrading with in three months.. and after going thru copper and the stress of ich I bet that 65 will make him happy

Say another fish comes down with it do I just drip acclimate him to the tank with copper?

Any fish that shared water with the Kole will likely get ich in the near future. So, this probably means every fish in your DT. Only way to completely eradicate it is to treat ALL your fish and go fallow in the DT for 76 days.

Don't shoot me!
