Minimum tank size for kole tang? I've heard 29gal but idk about that. There's a 1.5" Kole at my LFS and I'm wondering what tank size if it's the only fish alone in the tank.

He'd be the only fish in the tank, I wanna try a Xenia only scape and it'd be a nice fish. Also can't spend a ton haha. That being said, would a 40g work? That's the minimum I've heard a lot of people say, seems like this is a pretty debated topic

I have a Kole Tang in my 55 reef, seems to be doing great. Gets along with everyone, an d is a good addition. But i don't think I'd go any smaller then that.

From the research I've done on them, I learned they need swimming room. I can't afford a full blown Reef (15 and about to get first job) so I'll probably use 20lbs of rock. I know they're territorial, and with my tiny budget, I want it to be the only fish in the tank. Do you think that's an option? 30+ gallons of swimming room all to its self.

I know that isn't a lot, but I think with a lack of extreme rockwork/coral he'll have close to the same swimming room as a 55g Reef. And without territories of other fish I also think it'd minimize stress. What do you think?
*if there's more flow than less flow do fish feel more comfortable? Wondering for a qt tank

There hasn't been any negativity yet, and this is all just hypothetical, so please don't bring any [emoji1]

Please see my most recent post - it basically sums up my thoughts on the matter, if you want to critique anything I said please do! (be polite, beginner)

Tangs are easily stressed and break out in Ich quite a lot. You need at least a 75g for a Kole tang. My best advice would be to start small with a nano. Get a couple clowns and add coral as you go. Believe me, no cheap way to start the hobby that won't result in dead fish or wasted money

It doesn't matter if a tang is all by itself in 29g of water. They need space to swim. It has been unanimous in this thread that 29g is not enough. If that is negative to you, sorry. It's good to ask questions. Not so good to ignore the responses.

I never said that I agree with 29g? I actually said I don't... not so good to ignore the responses.

And the vast majority of the responses are saying 70-75g for space.

And the vast majority of tanks have full reefs and more than one fish... I don't understand how/why you guys had to be rude, as I said before, I'm just wondering...

No matter how little rock is in the tank, a 40b will still not provide you with 48" of swimming space, which is the minimum for a kole tang. Nobody is being rude. You asked for insights, people gave you answers, and you are seemingly ignoring the advice you asked for.
