I can’t find my thread about low nutrients cuz ima noob I guess. But my kole tang or should I call her by her real name snappy the smootcher. Lol has been looking stressed. Her face has some weird marks I tryed to catch in photos best I could. I’m thinking Mabye she just stressed a bit cuz I moved a few rocks away from the glass near her hangout. It’s bilateral so it has to me something health related. It just looks like she is banging her face against rocks or something?

So I took as many pics as I could of the marks on her face. Anyone have an idea of what’s happening to her? She won’t touch any herbivore foods. She just likes meaty stuff. I’ve got green, red, purple, and brown veggie sheets in the clip and rubber banded around rubble. She won’t touch it. If it’s free floating it scares her lol. She has been perfect since day one about 4.5 weeks ago. Water parameters are ammonia 0 trite 0 trate 0 phos 0 calcium 440 ph 8.3 dk 8.8 temp 79-80. Salinity 1.026 since day one. Parameters are steady as a rock. I will treat with prazi now if you think I should

Also I’m starting to notice her tail fin may be slightly uneven and perfect. Not like it’s being nipped at but more like darker edges almost like paper would burn.

That looks like head erosion, AKA early stage HLLE.

Looking at this and your other thread, you have a few issues that are all probably playing a part

You have double the recommended amount of carbon and are tumbling it in a reactor. Heavy carbon use is a widely accepted cause of HLLE.

With zeroed out NO3 and PO4 in a tank as sterile looking as yours, it's going to be a testing error, or you are not feeding enough.

Also, what specifically are you feeding? Poor nutrition can play a role here as well

Kole Tangs are more detrivores, so not being interested in Nori is not a deal breaker. They do need to have browsing opportunities and some vegetable matter in their diet. My Kole enjoys pellets with a mix of vegetable matter, and I leave some algae on my back glass and bottom. He will scrape at these areas throughout the day.

My plan of action would be:

Take the carbon offline completely

Get nutrients up by feeding more

Work on a more varied diet and get some Selcon to add to what is being fed.

Good luck!

Selcon came today. I’m soaking some mysis shrimp now. I added some sea veggies to clip and a small tube with rubber band. I also got prazipro in mail. Should I dose prazi? Or wait? Carbon reactor is stopped completely. I’m using salifert test kits for nitrate, nitrite, silicate, phosphorous.. I’m using api for ammonia. Hanna checker for DK. I use milwalkie refract. These tests all showed results when I cycled tank 2-3 months ago.

I don’t have a hospital tank or qt yet. I do have a small 10gallon tank with a small filter thatwas in it when it was fresh water. Is that capable of becoming a hospital tank? What should I do? I can spend money if needed cuz I feel horrible about my error with the carbon and just want to nurse her back to health. She is still very much interested in food likefrozen brine spirilina, mysis shrimp, and grazing on rocks and glass all day long. She has a great little cave shehas claimed as her own. I e been feeding more, I used to feed half frozen cube 2 times a day and some pellets for herbivores once for late night snack before bed.
All of your support is amazing!! I’d be lost in all the different articles online if it weren’t for all of you! Thank you!

If it was my tank I would give it a few weeks without the carbon and with more/better food before I tried a medical intervention or quarantine.

I would recommend running up the road to Tropic Isle and picking up some NLS Algeamax pellets. They had them in stock as of two days ago. The Selcon will soak into these well and they will provide some vegetable matter. After a few days of getting used to them, my Kole inhales them now...

Wow are you close to tropic isle? That LFS has been around since I was born. Lol I’m 49. I can shoot over there now and start soaking in selcon.

Oh I see where you are from. I have to try and set aside an hour and go over this forum really good to learn it better. I’m not the most fluent on sites like this lol. Are there any reef clubs around here I should try to join?

Assure water parameters are optimum and the hlle is likely from a vitamin deficiency. Feed this fish at minimum:

Nori seaweed basted with garlic extract
Spirulina brine shrimp
Formula 2 flake and frozen
Mysis shrimp
Small plankton
LRS herbivore diet

ADD GARLIC EXTRACT AND SELCON VITAMINS TO ITS DIET 2-3X per week

Boston Reefers Society has a webpage and I am an online member. I have a family and a busy life so I don't know how the "in person" stuff works over there....

Well I’ve been soaking his pellets (nyos true algae) and mysis and brine spiriulina in selcon daily for a few days now and removed carbon. His face seems to have stopped spreading. It looks as if his color is getting better too already. Since I don’t have anything in my tank that prazipro can hurt I decided to run a round of that. I’m doing a 30% wc today and second round of prazipro. Then I’ll wc again after the 3-5 days. I still can’t get her to eat the sea veggies. Not with selcon soaked anyway or plain. I’ve got purple, red, and green. I’ve also cut small bits of sea lettuce from refuge but nobody like that. Lol. I grabbed some garlic today and will try adding some to the veggies.
Thank you to all of you for sharing your knowledge.
