IMG_7344.JPG My Tang has this on both sides from reading it looks like a bacterial infection. He shows no signs of any problems and don't see it on my other Yellow Tang can someone tell me what to do? I have PraziPro and read it's reef safe but I should not run carbon with it and turn the protein skimmer off. How long do you keep it off for.
Thx for any help as in almost 3 years I have never experienced anything like this.
I have just done a water change and I need to mention that I was doing construction aroiund the tank and I know some sheet rock dust got in.

+1 bacterial infection.

You will want to move him to a QT tank. Antibiotics are not reef safe.

I recommend the trifecta for 10-14 days. Kanaplex, Metroplex, and Furan-2.

Dam ......Catching him that's not going to be easy and it will stress the f... out of him. He's eating fine I just put some Garlic in the tank .
I'm getting a 10 gallon ready.

So no votes for trying PraziPro

And it's only been 2 days with my other tang showing no signs can't I wait another day and see if he starts getting better maby it was the sheet rock dust that he tried to eat

So no votes for trying PraziPro
Prazipro treats for worms etc. It is not an antibiotic, or going to be helpful for a bacterial infection.

There was also allot of stress on him and the envirement so taking hiom out to fast might be worse?

Also, an acriflavine bath might be very helpful in this situation.
Yep. You could treat the entire tank with an acriflavine product like Ruby Reef Rally. Mfg. claims it to be reef safe. But as always you could have an invert or coral that reacts badly to anything you add to the tank. Highly recommend RRR as a 90 min. bath. It has both antiseptic and antibiotic qualities.

As far as catching the tang, you could wait until the tank has been dark for a couple of hours. Use a small flashlight to locate the fish. Keep the light on the fish's face. It will mesmerize the fish so you can net it. Works pretty well on those hard to catch fast movers and in tanks with lots of obstacles.
