This is an equipment question, but also a beginner question. I was running an mj 1000 retrofitted with a flow kit on my tank and the pump just died. When I looked up the GPH rating it said 283gph. I ordered a replacement circulation pump, the Koralia Evolution 425 (rated for 425gph) and put it in today. I expected the flow to be at least what was coming out of the MJ if not more. Let's just say... not. Is this correct? Is my pump bad?

I have a 20h and it does create some flow, but not much. The MJ pretty much kept most destritus suspended so it could be taken down to the sump and kept the surface pretty agitated as well. The Koralia just creates a nice gentle flow, no surface agitation, does not keep detritus suspended. I feel like I would need 3 of these things to elminate dead areas.

Are my flow expectations high because of the retro kit? I can't find that kit now to see what it says about the increase in circulation. Looking at the new model MJ it has two flow rates, one when used as a ph and one for circulation. If I go by that since I was using mine for circulation I would have been putting out about 1000gph of circulation.

Or is my koralia just bad?

The maxi-jet rating is not the rating for circulation mode, that is much higher. the Korallia is designed to disperse the flow over a wider area, a K 1050 would have made you happier.

yeah, I think I'm gonna have to get a much larger one. This one says it is rated for 15-30 gallons, specifially for a nano. If this is really the performance, it is much less than I expected.
