So I picked up some koralias the other day and went to install today, only problem is that the powerheads spin the wrong direction!!! Thoughts on what the problem is? I have never had problems like this before........ Please let memonow what you guys think! Thanks Nemo.

Were these brand new units that you bought or were they used? If new, i would contact the place you bought them and see if you can swap them out or call the manufacturer. If used, i would take apart and clean throughly. See if that helps.

They were used, but I have cleaned them ht the stupid thing still spins wrong....

Keep unplugging and plugging back in till the spin the right way. I have an old one that sometimes wont turn back on I just touch the impeller and it works.

Mine used to run backwards occasionally after putting them back in the tank after cleaning. Usually 2 or 3 times unplugging and plugging got them to run correctly.
I've read of others having this issue, so its not uncommon.

Ok plugged and unplugged like 10 times.... Not working. How many times should I do it??

A guy in my local reef club had the same problem. He contacted Koralia and they sent him new bearrings which fixed the problem.

It's been a somewhat common problem with Koralias. IIRC, it caused because they run on AC and if you happen to turn them on during the wrong part of the cycle, they spin backwards. Have you tried to hold the propeller stationary when you turn it on (or, better, have someone else turn it on) and then manually try to spin it in the proper direction? Also, have you tried contacting Koralia?

I've never had this happen with Koralia. I had this happen with Tunze. I fixed it by cupping my hand over the discharge area while they are running. This usually starts them spinning in the right direction. Good luck!

Interesting, I must have 25 of these, and to my knowledge I've never had one spin backwards.

Sent them an email and waiting on reply. I got it to spin correct but then next time it goes back to before. It is frustrating...

Are they the old K series or the new Evolutions series? If they are the Evolutions they have a free fix they will send to you.

I have the same problem.
What I do is use my hand to stop the propella and rotate it the right direction.
I don't know which model you have, but it doesnt hurt. its not that strong to rip out your finger. If your worried you can plug and unplug it several time. For me, it was safer. No electric shock.
