Has/Does anyone run a Korallin 1502 Calcium Reactor? I was just gonna see if anyone could give me some advice on how they ran it in their system and how they hooked it all up. Im still setting up my frag system, but was looking to install the CaRx straight from my hatd plumbing via a 1/4” push connect with a on/off valve...

Will this configuration work? Or am I going to need a needle valve to control flow from the push connect fitting?

I don't have that reactor, but I would say by looking at it you will definitely need a needle valve. You will need a way to slow the effluent flow waaaay down.
I'm running mine off a return manifold too, seems to work fine. I experimented with the valve being on the input side, and the output side, I currently have it on the output side. I also have a small filter before the needle valve to keep it from clogging (I'll post a pic of one below).
If I ever run into trouble keeping Alk stable I will probably change to a peristaltic pump though. But for now it works just fine.

Use natural media. ARM or reborn perform identical to me.

Korallin are incredibly easy to tune, once you know how. The reactor traps excess co2, if you set it up right, and it will let you know when you messed up.

Read through this thread for how to set it up and tune it:

Thank you guys for the responses... feel a little more comfortable with what im doing now... Just started gluing pvc today... Appreciate it guys...

So I finally got the carx up and running... I have a new one on the way, but wanted to get this one set up for the reefer... Ibe had it running for 2 days now... 60 drips and 10 bubbles a minute... the effluent dkh is 16.8 and my tank alk is 8.45... only issue im having is that the oh probe is reading 5.83!!! What is that all about? I cannot figure it out... I even recalibrated the probe and its only a month old... any ideas? Obviously the reactor is working fine and the probe is just getting a false reading... checked the probe and it doesnt have anything obstructing the electrode... have no idea... thoughts?

Looks great man.

Thanks dude... i ended up keeping the korallin... figured I would just pit it on the reefer so i dont need to dose anymore... any ideas about the ph reading? Its drivong me nuts... womt be able to control it on the apex if its like that

No clue, I don’t have an apex. Maybe if trident is good and reliable I’d get one.

Looking good,

I use mine with a peri pump to control the effluent

Like other people said when you run the unvented mode you can usually tell as the gas fills top of the cylinder.

So should I lower bubble count? So it comsumes the co2 thats at the top... im running the vented one, just have it capped off

How did you learn to set this all up and what exactly you needed to get and do? This is so foreign to me but I would love to understand it and implement it on future builds of mine. It looks so complex, I love it, lol.

That's the theory, less gas mixing means less gas appearing in the chamber, I run mine on vented though so I don't have that issue.

Problem I have Is I have to run the media hard at a ph of 5.7 in the reactor to feed an effluent of 28/30 dkh
My tank is heavily sps stocked though.

Its fairly simple once you get your head around it, I have chosen to run a ph probe in my reactor so a solenoid controls whe the gas is on/off.

A lot of people don't use this method as they fine tune the bubble counted to run all the time, I think the peri pump is a must, I have a few reefer friends who set off without one and soon bought one to better control the effluent.

I am fairly fortunate the ph in the tank natural runs around 8.2/8.3 so I haven't had an issue with swings from the reactor being so low, it is dropping straight into an algae bed which will help de - gas the solution.

If you have anymore questions about the setup, just give us a shout, it was daunting too when I first setup haha

Haha yea I’ll have to do some more research, I know literally nothing about calRX’s other than the basic mechanics. Do they help with alk, cal, and mag? Or just cal and pH boosting.

I have been running mine for around 6 months,

Set and forget, mine now keeps my alk stable at 8,4dkh, and that in tandem keeps the mag at around 1380 and calcium around 440,

It all depends what media you use, mine also adds strontium and other traces too, my last ICP I sent was near enough bang on where it should be I just maintain a 10% water change every 2 weeks and does red sea colours to top them up daily.

That’s awesome. What media do you use?
