Hi my name is kenji I have this idea of this 900l kotobuki aquarium with plastic frame on top and bottom side

Which i was thinking to remove it and drill a hole on it and make it an overflow type tank

Which I am wondering if anyone here had done taking off the plastic "frames i guess" and if its possible to be done or not.

Hope to here great answers reply to my topic btw this is the aquarium I am talking about

Thank you very much

Welcome to R2R! Very cool idea, Im sure if you looked through our awesome DIY threads you might stumble across some answer that might help.

Wow what a fast reply thanks
I got caught on the plastic problem that i need to remove before opening holes in it
But since Im new to this thing I am somewhat worried that it would damage my aquarium

Thank you, we try to help anyone with a question here no matter how small or big. Im no expert at this subject but I do know depending on what size tank, and how thick the glass is that removing the rim is possible. Also the rim serves as a structure support so it could effect how sturdy the tank is with water in it.

My tank is a 157L glass tank round corners I thinks its about 90x45x45 or 90x60x60 dont know which one hehehe I examined the frames on top its just as it sits on top like a deco or something
Btw I live in japan so measurements a bit messy here hhehehe

No problem lol. id say that would be around 40 US gallons. I don't think I would risk the trim removal, due to a lot of the 40 Gallon tanks I see already have problems with front panels being a little flimsy! I would still do a little research just to make sure. If rimless runover is what you want, id check out or sponsor Zeroedge who has some amazing setups. Hope I could help a little.

Well I am planning to buy a 1200l tank i thinks it in around 120x?x? Not yet sure of the size but I wanted to try it on my 900 and yet thinking since i can use my 900 for a sump since its big enough to fit almost everything for a sump thats my one most problem I am facing right now hehehe

lol I understand, well whatever you decide keep us posted and snap some pics whenever possible.

What could you advice for my problem? Should I overflow my current tank or use it as a sump if i would buy a new one

Buying new one is @ 70% rate at now just need to save some up for new lighting and other equipments

well If your getting a new tank soon Id say make an awesome sump to fit your needs, at that size you could do a awesome setup.

Nice thanks for the advices please expect more questions to come hehehehe btw here is a pic of my tank
Current pics not yet been taken but surely will post soon
