Krawl's First Reef Tank Attempt (90g)

Sure! Why not? I love building things. Lol!
I still have a ways to go on the stand. I literally just started a couple of days ago. Need to go get more lumber and plywood. It will actually be an entire floor to ceiling wall unit when complete. Modern... white to match the cabinetry and trim we are doing in the house now.

Yeah that is the thing. It is not ran through the APEX. That is the only thing that is not. I dont run it through there since I have the Kessil app on my phone.

Sorry I misread your post. Post up a screen shot of your schedule from the app.

100 snails and 100 hermits would be way to many to introduce at one time.

try adding in groups of 10. you also don't need 1 per gallon. its more of, you need as many as you need. add in smaller groups so you can figure out that number :)

Nice! I want to see it when it is done. Are you putting a canopy on it? Ours had one but took it off. I like it better. I could build a stand but I just dont have the time. Lol it would have to be out of metal though. My wood working skills are not the best.

So just a screen shot of the graph? Do you run a Kessil? I am wondering if we need to add any red or green to the spectrum as well. It is on a deep blue setting now.

Didnt think of the bio load. What if we did a small pack with different CUC? I heard emerald crabs were good for GHA. We had one a couple years ago. Cool guy but dont remeber what happened to them.

Speaking of crabs and hemits... when they die do you guys leave the shells or clean them out? I mean obviously you clean them out at some point but do you do it asap or?

See if this graph helps. This is the light flow and setting. I just moved the height when we add the glass tops but it should be 12" off the water line if I remember correctly. All times are set with the same lighting as in the last picture.

i leave the shells. you need different sized shells for the hermits to move to and from.

I usually do. I just didnt know at what point enough is enough. I see a lot of tanks here on R2R that look like the have no extra in the bottom.

Okay so I have a confession. Yesterday Top Shelf Aquatics was having their live sale. My wife and I were out shopping and I was watching from time to time. Seen they had a Candycorn BTA that I liked. Getting the nice items on live sales can be tough so I tried... and won! So I could not let that ship by itself so I also ended up getting a frag of Red Dragons Breath ( have no clue what it is, it just looked good and was under $10), Pandora Zoas, and a Rainbow Ricordia. The BTA is going to go in the BioCube for my wife's pair of midnight clowns. I M not sure where to put everything else but I am open to suggestions.

I know I still need to post a FTS of the BioCube. I was looking at it last night and seen this and wanted to see if anyone had a idea. I think it might be a feather duster. I found 3. There is 2 in the picture. Just in front of the snail shell. Sorry it is hard to see since it is zoomed in so small.

Today... water test and water change in both tanks. I will see if I can get some sump pictures and some pictures of the BioCube for you guys again.

Thank you all for the help and support once again. Thanks for all the comments and tips!

the red dragon's breath is a very pretty variety of macroalgae. I will have some in my system as well.

I would agree that those are tiny dusters. I love discovering where those appear. From the pic it does not look like a vermintide snail.

Where did you put your dragons breath?

Okay so spent about 4 hours today on the DT and the Cube. More so on the main tank. It is looking better than it has in years.

Here is our test results. This was before today's water change. I also have came to the conclusion that these are just CLOSE numbers and I hate the API test. I feel like there is a lot of guess work that goes into the results.

Main tank:

Also took some pictures of the sump on the main tank. See what you guys think...

Then the tubing I was talking about that I hate...

Still a long way to go. Just hope we can get everything in line soon. I also hope the parameters on both tanks are okay for the new coral coming mid week. Wife and I also talked about ordering that CUC tomorrow or Tuesday. Maybe this one??

This would be split between both tanks of course so I think it would work.

Any suggestions and thoughts are always welcome!!

Speaking of CUC... we found quite a bit of brissol worms in the BioCube last night. Some say they are good, some say get rid of them. Not sure yet what we want to do. We see some every now and again in both tanks (when cleaning) but last night we counted 8-10 that we could see!

bristol worms are a normal part of the CUC. Leave them be. If it seems you like have a bunch a bunch you are feeding too much.

Little update... still waiting on our goodies from the live sale from week a half ago. Got it from Top Shelf Aquatics but it is my fault. Keep asking questions and may grab a few more items. I know there is no rush on our end. Everyday is a day further the tank has came.

On another note, dealing with Kessil on this light is a pain. Really starting to wish I went a different direction. 4 emails in and they have asked 2 questions... which I dont see how pertains to the light coming on in the middle of the night issue. Tried to call and their voicemail said to email them. Lol. Then Saturday the light didnt come on and had to reset it. Wonderful...

Thanks again for those that are following along...

Yea. It is a bummer. $1,000.00 light and @Kessil is MIA. Emailed them 3 times (last time was Monday) and still... nada. Makes me wonder how companies like this stay in business.

So this week... water change this past Sunday and 2 doses this week of calcium and alkalinity. Thinking maybe a doser for the APEX is in short order. Might help keep the parameters in check. Who knows...

GPS is doing good and seems to be growing along with mystery zoa.
