So my system has actually been running for quite some time now (approx 5 years) but it has had multiple changes over that time period. It started out with a 180 plumbed into a 40 breeder and not long after I moved in another 180 gallon with a 125 sump to really beef things up.
Over that time the types of coral has changed drastically that I've kept. I was heavy into Acro's for about 3 years until I dealt with red bugs and finally AEFW. Now things are a little more mixed.
Anyhow, Fastforward to now. I've recently dealt with my 180 in the basement blowing a silicone seal and having clean things up and frantically move my large fish into temporary places.
I just grabbed a non reef ready 125 gallon that I will be making into a peninsula. The reason being for a 125 is honestly the weight difference. I can't deal with bringing another 180 into the basement because the weight of it empty is just too much to do again.
Currently as things stand with the creation of this thread the system as of follows:
180Gal Mix reef-
Lighting: 6 80w t5 Retrofit and a Actinic+ UV BuildMyLED 60" strip.
Powerheads: 2 Vortech MP40's
Stock list: Chocolate Tang, (2) Hippo Tangs, Scopas Tang, Tomini Tang, Magnificent Foxface, Lyretail Anthias, (4) Chromis, and some kind of cardinal fish.
125 Achilles dedicated-
Lighting 3 Fathom LED's.. Same as Pharos.
Powerheads: 1 Vortech MP40, (2) Koralia Magnum (3250 GPH)
Stock list: Achilles and maybe Emperor
Where the 125 is going originally had my second 180 gallon that had a leak. It housed my Achilles, Emperor, Bluespine Unicorn, Foxface, Purple tang. Most of these fish probably won't be going into the 125 that will be replacing it, unfortunately. I'm in the process of trying to find a new home for the Unicorn as he's well over 12". I already have the lighting for a 6 foot tank otherwise I'd probably grab a 120 instead. Plus its being an Achilles dedicated layout.
Previously the system was approx 485 gallons, after today when I plumb in the new 125 to replace the old 180 it will be approx 430 gallons.
Skimmer: Reef octopus SRO5000ext
Return: Reeflo Hammerhead Gold
System is basic controlled by Neptune Apex
Large Avast Marine media reactor and K2 Kalkwasser stirrer as well.
I don't find a need for my calcium reactor any more since I don't have many stony corals any longer.
