KZ Coral System and SPS Color

Hey everyone I hope you all are doing well,

I was wondering if anyone has used these KZ Coral System additives on their SPS tanks and if it actually worked to bring out better coloration as advertised.

I was on the fence about trying them. I was only going to use these KZ products as I am hesitant to use the ZeoVit system as I have read that sometimes the SPS look really pale and things can go terribly wrong leading to a tank crash. If you have any other suggestions of additives that might help bring out better SPS coloration please feel free to comment. I know that good lighting, good flow, stable tank and nutrient parameters are a must, but do these products also help? Thank you in advance for your input!!

My take is no. I have seen these same products come and go with different names over the years. They go from fad, to blah to a joke... each time the new product discounts the older ones for being older and having less tech, some people swear by them and then after a while the interest wains.

Your statement about lights, stable tank is on the money. If you are using LEDs, then moving to MH or adding some T5s will help color more than any additive. If you have T5s, then adding in a daylight bulb can bring out additional colors.

Nutrients will differ. Lower nutrients will have brighter colors and more contrast between colors whereas more nutrients will have deeper, richer colors... different prefer one over the other and both can look great (I am a brighter/contrast guy).

Thanks for the input. I am running 4 T5s over a 20 high. I have a 75gallon just sitting empty but because of being on a tight medical school budget and living on a 3rd floor apartment I have not been able to set it up or get a stand and proper lighting for it. My little 20 high is doing okay though. I am moving in a couple weeks and I am looking to do a new aquascape and I am also looking into getting some Battlecorals later on this year and I want those colors to shine! My bulb setup right now is all Blue Plus (I love that flourescent look). I do have an Aquablue Special and a True Actinic sitting in a corner.

So do you think adding the Aquablue Special in with the three Blue Plus bulbs is a good idea or do you think I should go with a Coral Plus???

If you want more color, I would switch out one of those Blue Plus for a 6500k.

Good bulb but GE makes a 6500k HO t5 for about 10 bucks which is good too. Just saves a few bucks.

Either one is fine.

Daylight still develops the best pigments in the coral. Most people do not like to look at coral under daylight, so some blues are nice for illumination.

I have and use these and have seen best results in LPS than SPS but lighting is more important for thriving than additives with SPS
