KZ Flatworm Stop & Weekly Melafix Dips for AEFW?

I’ve read and heard from others that flatworm exit only works on the little red flatworms and not acro eating flatworms. I was going to bomb my tank with “Purge” but someone strongly cautioned me not to do it.
I just dipped all my acros in melafix today and I’m starting flatworm stop too when it gets delivered. I just hope all of this works! I’m curious if anyone has had long term success or if they came back after a few months of stopping treatment.
I think I have those red flatworms too. I have some symptoms what I believed those are aefw. Also, I dipped one of the dying sps, I should have taken a picture but I believe it was aefw. It was at night and was tired so I just poured the water outside.

On the other hand, even though if I don’t have aefw, heard people have good success just doing it and had better growth and color.

I was in denial and thought it was impossible that I had AEFW. I dipped my frags and scrubbed the plugs before anything went in my tank. One of my milliporas was growing fast but the color just kept getting worse and worse. I was really confused actually because all the other acros looked great: really nice polyp extension, good color, nice growth.. just this one milli looked terrible. I tested the water parameters and everything was right where I wanted it to be. So out of curiosity one night I sprayed that milli with a turkey baster and a fat flatworm came flying off of it. I’m impressed that i couldn’t see it - these things blend in so well. So I sprayed some more and I probably sucked off 8 or so pretty big ones. They were almost all tucked in the “saddle” where the two little branches are.
The milli was looking like me in the middle of winter!

Ok but did you use any of the said products?

Yeah I broke off all the acros today and broke off the old plugs. Then I threw them in 50ml/gallon of melafix marine. Then I glued them onto new plugs. I didn’t see any big worms drop off during the dip but lots of little stuff came off. I ordered flatworm stop from BRS but it hasn’t been delivered yet so can’t comment on that yet.

Now, I am itching to dip mine affected one again. I got little bit of ocd, so that’s why I hate taking them off and never put them back the way I wanted lol. Just found out my half bottle of flatworm exit is expired in 2018, I think it’s still good lol.

will order flatworm stop this weekend and hopefully there’s a memorial day sale.

The tank I treated with fws is still aefw free. It’s been a long time since I did it too. I would have seen them a long time ago.

Ordered mine few hours earlier. Hopefully it will work or at least help a bit. Again, will bomb the display with flatworm exit first.

Flatworm exit doesn’t kill AEFW. In fact the dips don’t really kill them either, they just end up paralyzed and they can be blown off the corals In their stunned state. It’s why it’s very important to use a turkey baster and make sure you blow off the corals well while they’re being dipped. ;)

Not sure if you read I posted above, I don’t have those red flatworms FYI. So basically I am killing the red then treat the aefw.

Gotcha! That makes sense! Don’t let the red ones nuke your tank! ;)

Hopefully not! It doesn’t appeared that my tank is infested with flatworm. I am able to see maybe around 10. I have treated the tank maybe around 2 years ago. Will keep you guys posted.

Flat worm exit normally brings out a lot more worms than you can see if your treating for red planaria. I just use an extremely thin net and use a bucket to rinse the net off into to keep them out of the tank right when they star to float and die.

I would stick with the 6-7 day dip cycle. Flatworm stop is not a cure all fo aefw. It does help boost the coral recovery from
My experience. Stay persistent and you will beat them. Make sure you dip all Sps corals. Hope you don’t have any that have encrusted to rocks.

I hear you, but not going to pull out corals to dip them. I prob dip a few pieces. Yeah lots of them are kinda of glued or encrusted on rocks. Got a bit of ocd, I hate it when I can’t mount the back the way it used to be.

Fws at a double dose can rid a tank of aefw by itself. Though I had much better results with using it and also basting the corals every few days to keep the worms from taking ahold in the first few months. Also starting before an infestation takes hold is key. If your thinking fws will cure a tank with thousands of eggs and hundreds of worms your going to have work cut out for you.

Not hoping for magic. But basting them off will that fly to other corals? Currently I have one mini colony with suspected aefw and a couple of colonies with red flatworms.

They will on their own anyways. And it keeps the corals they like to eat harder to get to again maybe. They do have preferences so keeping them off them is helpful ime. Plus as long as you have most any reef fish, you can get a lot of fish to eat them. Just baste and offer a tiny amount of food each time you get to a few worms.
