I’m sure they banned it so people don’t use it in the wrong way :)

Prolly got banned cos of that one person...

Hmmmm.......

Oh and the post was moved somewhere, I guess I upset someone by asking a question, I guess less people will see it now!

I've never had to reference it before in like 20 yrs of constant online reefing, usually am chatting about tanks and corals, bacteria? I get what you are saying but it also dawned on me the sheer lack of need for reef descriptors beyond what we use all the time.

My thoughts exactly lol. Who cares if it is banned. never came up during my talks on sumps or dinos, or whatever.

The gay, married moderator (me) moved it, as it does belong here in the Feedback forum.
FWIW, I agree that this word should be off the filter, and have already started a discussion about it with the mods.

While I think it should not be a banned word, I agree I've never found the need to use it on this forum. Sexual identity is not relevant to me in this hobby, but I guess it might be to some.

+1 a persons sexual choice and orientation doesn’t matter in the slightest in regards to this hobby. I can’t think of a reason why it would matter when discussing the hobby.

There are other places to discuss those things. I come here to discus reefing.

As an LGBT myself, I'm not really miffed that its filtered as I can see it's a word that probably doesn't get used very much when talking about reef topics, but can probably be used to describe fish behavior traits.

Is Homosexual a censored word?

What about the spelling of the genus Homophyllia?

guess I'll find out when I hit the post reply button

Edit: those seem to be fine :)

R2R is a family oriented forum. They have there own set of rules and standards. They pay for and maintain this website privately.

This forum is not for political views or arguing political correctness. If some thing offends you, accept it and use the forum, or don’t.

This is definitely a family friendly forum and the moderators are wonderful keeping on top of that. I love being a part of this group. But the L-word is not a bad word or in any way indicates a non-friendly atmosphere. How it was used, is a different story...but even then, it wouldn't be the word that is an issue, it should be the post and what it was in reference to.

I'd agree with the OP that that word is objectively a descriptor word for a demographic of people and not an inflammatory word. I don't see how "Lesbian" should be categorized in the same inflammatory category.

Now, posters who abuse others and use words in negative content should be banned immediately.

So the the "r" word referring to someone mentally challenged or just boneheadedly stupid. Ugh.

It also means to slow the progress of something, which was the context in which I used the word.
