Anybody have a similar experience with Liveaquaria salt mixing fresh and registering ammonia? I'm measuring .5ppm in a clean Brute.

Might be a bad batch but the api test kits seem to mess up a lot

.25 ime is a common result on the api test kit even when the actual is 0. If truly think there is ammonia take a sample of the newly made water in a washed and sterilized container(would not use quaternary ammonium lol)
Test after time has passed for nitrate and nitrite.

But i doubt the ammonia just based on the color you have and getting the same exact result often in salt water.

When i started out i purchased a large bag of the LA salt as well and came across the same exact thing. Then again i was using the api test kit as well. I did test just my ro water and it came up at zero. It wasn’t until i mixed that i ran into this same issue. I was using it for small water changes so once i used it up i changed to RPM salt.

I'm not certain on that particular salt mix, but I'm pretty sure some may show amo at initial mixing, and may say not to use immediately for that reason.

Just FYI, it is highly suspected that Fritz makes the LA salt, so you may want to check your new salt as well.

I let the water aerate for 24hrs and it still registers .5ppm. Tested my RO source water at 0ppm and 0 tds. LA response was ‘We have had no issues with our salt at this time.’ Seemed like an odd response considering it was the last box I had from an order when it first released over a year ago.

Yeah I had some different issues with my LA salt and the customer service was severely lacking imo. I haven’t changed any water in almost 3 weeks, haven’t dosed anything and my Ca is still over 500 and Mg over 1500.

The price was good, but that’s about it.
