Early last week, I received a LaBout's fairy wrasse from a very reputable on-line dealer and put him directly into my DT. Other than fish I buy from this dealer, I QT everything. When I put the LaBout's in the DT this past Tuesday, he was shy at first, but after a few days began eating and behaving normally. In full disclosure, my flame wrasse was picking on him: occasionally chasing and nipping, but it was not constant. And as of Friday, the flame was pretty much leaving him alone. Last night and this morning, I noticed several white specks on the head/body and moved him to my QT to observe and possibly treat.
I reached out to the dealer and he said it did not look like ich because none of the spots are the same size and are different shapes. He said it appeared to be particulate matter stuck to him and recommend that I give a few blasts with a turkey baster. Keep in mind that this fish was transitioned and acclimated from DT and QT last night, has now spent 24 hours in my sandless QT and received a few water blasts from the baster.
Does this look like ich to you, or maybe something else bad? Pic 1 is before the water blast and Pic 2 is after. Thank you!
