Decided to take a different approach on how were accustom to cycling a tank, Iv gotten into the habit on my last 2 tank to do a fishless cycle using Fritz tubro start + ammonia. After much though I picked up a Im Lagoon 25 pro , Decided to go on adding a pair of small clowns Day 1 + Microbacter Start XLM + 6 Bioballs From my 1 year old Nano tank as well as adding a couple corals (Kenya Tree, Toadstool , Hammer/Torch , Zoas) . Now im aware im taking a gamble here , I did ton of research from watching reef builders (both there nano tank and there new recent Aussie Coral Reef) and BRS quick cycle with fish on there facebook channel. My main key take downs is to keep things simple. It been a little over a week since Iv started and had no detectible ammonia, checking daily . Have yet to test for nitrates giving it till next friday to test. My plan is to feed fish daily but super minimal , do weekly 2 gallon water change and start a cheato reactor or use a a chamber as a refugium and using microbacter clean to try to avoid the uglies and turn light intensity down for the first month. I will keep you all updated to see how this test project comes along month by month

@Lasse Wow Id wish I had found this thread earlier , May I ask , is the reason for adding nitrates is because a small amount of fish won’t produce enough waste ? and with todays bacteria would you still say to add bacteria daily?

IME nitrate in the water in some cases block formation of cyanobacteria mats in the start and you get in some nitrogen in an untoxic form for growth of green microalgae. Be aware to use only nitrification bacteria not a mix of "good" bacteria.

Sincerely Lasse
