Hi, I'm going to start a build on a Lagoon 25 and I know I'll want to upgrade the pump over the stock version. My questions are, would it be beneficial to have two smaller pumps vs one larger pump for redundancy, also if I put spin streams on the outlets would that cut a large amount of flow and how much would I have to compensate, and would dual spin streams and an upgraded pump create enough random flow or would I need to add additional powerbeads as well? Thanks in advance for any helpful info.

You should always have at least two pumps. You can imagine my horror when I viewed my QT tank and the powerhead shut off due to the fact the lights were out, lucky nothing died so I would always have at least two pumps. For my large tank I have my pumps separated by circuit breakers. So i would go with one circulation pump and at least one controllable power head.

I would go with two pumps myself. One on each side of the aquarium to create a circular flow pattern.I am not a fan of those spin stream products. The ones I have used would always stop working.Definitely reduces the flow.

I put the spin streams on and upgraded my pump to the mj900 and the spin streams cut the flow significantly I have the lagoon 25 as well I'm in the process of cycling my tank right now but I still have the spin streams in will see how they do when I add coral and fish

I picked up my lagoon 25 yesterday Filled the front section with water and let it sit overnight. No leaks anywhere and the dumb chamber was dry as well. I filled up the sump section this morning and turned the pump on. I still have it running right now to continue my leak test. The flow that the stock pump puts out doesn't feel that strong at all. When I upgrade to duel pumps, one for each outlet, how much flow would you suggest. Is it better to have a slower turnover rate through the sump section and get most of my other tank flow with pumps inside the aquarium? Is anybody happy with the spin streams?
