is this a wonder chemical or what. been struggling with p04 running rowphos but still at 0.12 dosed 15ml now 0.03. Think i will keep the rowa running and only dose lanth if it creeps up . bought cristols from ebay and made my own liquid 1 gram to 100ml

has no one else used it ?

To me, it is a wonder chemical. It would literally cost me about $250 a month in GFO to maintain my PO4 at desired levels. In the last month, i have used a total of $0.75 in LaCl to do the exact same job. This is not an exaggeration, by the way.

Other than being MUCH cheaper per unit PO4 removed, the other benefit is that you know for "dose x" you will remove "y" phosphate. It is much less cut and dry with GFO.

Your plan sounds good, although i personally would prefer to use lanthanum chloride exclusively for PO4 removal, and spend the money i would have spent on GFO, on cool stuff.

hi i was just going to use it on its owne but was concerned about long term usage.i read some people drip a diluted solution over many hours but i have just been dripping 2-3 mil into the overflow every morning

I was too, initially. However, as long as you are registering even a tiny amount of phosphate, you know your LaCl is being exhausted. I have also read about negative effects on Tang species, however i have dosed relatively large amounts of lanthanum directly to my system overflow, i have observed none of them - in a system with several Acanthurus and Zebrasoma species.

i looked at these but they are so expensive for what they are i bought 10 grams that will last for ages

its like allot of things in this hobby put a pretty label on it and charge 3 times as much lol

I use klearsea. It’s a pool product but works well in my tank. The $40 some bottle is going to last me 5+ years.

Hello everybody.

I'm having some trouble hope you can help.

I dose lanthanum chloride into my pipe work that goes down to a clarisea sk5000 roller filter after the filter the water goes into the sump - skimmer - filters etc..

I dilute my seaklear commercial 7 ml lanthanum chloride / 1 L of water. Dose it over 24 hours distributed on 150 occasions a' 3,6 ml/dose.

I get the wanted effect in lowering phospates but it also shows on ICP testing and the amount in the water is rising. 4 ug/l last time and 11 ug/l this time.

What do you recommend? Maybe the clarisea sk5000 isnt suitable for this?

I've also noticed an increase in other of other substances like aluminium, lithium and barium do you know if the lanthanum could "free" other substances?
