Yup, I am chasing that numbers again. I want to drop my good old phosphate from around .30 to .10 and try to keep my nitrate at around 15-20ppm for the red field ration.

My tank had high phosphate.90 few years ago and I dropped it down to around .30 with LC since two years ago and stay at this level.

I believe it was mainly the dry rocks I put I and the I fed heavily before that caused that.

Now, my plan is to drop it with LC and run about 30% gfo to maintain it. Do reefers constantly dropping it with LC to maintain it?

Lc can take some time as po4 will leach from the rocks and substrate I don’t bother with gfo as there is no control on what’s being absorbed at least with lc you have complete control over the levels you wish to achieve

I am dropping mine with my LaCl reactor - LaCl Dosing Reactor (No Socks!)

After letting it drift, I decided to pull it down when it hit 0.50 ppm. After a couple of months, as of this morning, I was at 0.116 ppm. I am waiting to see what it is tomorrow morning and will slow the feed through the reactor if it is dropping too much. I only planned to bring it down to 0.10 ppm. The common recommendation is to not try to use LaCl below 0.10 ppm, but I am curious if using something that can dose super slow can still work below 0.10 without having LaCl escape.

Currently I am pushing 80ml/min through the reactor and the LaCl is 10ml of undiluted TLF PhosBan-L (equiv to 30ml diluted) in a 5 gallon reservoir. It takes about a week to dose the 5 gallons depending on my flowrate.

So no one use a 5 or 10 micron sock and fish or coral still ok? I am using phosphate rx. Would it be beneficial if I diluted with rodi then slowling drip it within an hour or so?

I was thinking drip it slowly inside of the skimmer cup but not sure if that works.

You are going to want to catch and remove the precipitate. A 5 or 10 micron sock would work great for that. If you leave it in the water column, it will get picked up by your Hanna and give you a false elevated reading until it settles out.

I would not trust the skimmer to remove it. Plus it forms nasty deposits on surfaces, so your skimmer will get a coating on it that will need to be dissolved and cleaned.

I've fought Phosphates fir years on my tank started in 2007.

I've tried just about everything out there....

The safest and most effective is the PhosphateRX listed above.

Safest means the effect on Tangs. Tangs go into hyperventilation with every LaCl product I've tried. One product in particular killed 3 of my Tangs that were all large adults.

I use Phosphate RX bc I think its ultra pure. Used in moderation I've never seen a Tang rapid breath and stress out with Phosphate RX clouding the water. I have one Blue Hippo that when other LaCl would hit the water, it will immediately go to a corner and start hyperventilating and wouldn't swim around. With Phosphate RX it ignores the cloudiness....bc I think BlueLife uses ultra pure high lab grade quality. Idk...

Wish I knew where they get year LaCl bc I know a $20 bottle costs them about 15cents worth of LaCl. But is totally worthy $20 a bottle not to kill my Tangs nor have them hyperventilate! So I pay the huge profit margin for their secret formula. lol

The Phosphate RX I use in conjunction with Vodka and TM BactoBalance. The vodka and bactobalance gets my po4 down to 0.3 but it maxes out there. Won't go below 0.25.

To get to 0.1 I use 30-50drops of the Phosphate RX once a week to tame my 220g total volume to 0.1

0.1 is exactly where I want to be and no.lower bc I mainly have zoas palys that feed off the 0.1 po4

A $20 bottle of Phosphate RX is worth about 800-1000 droplets per bottle.

Extremely affordable when I'm only using 30-50 droplets max a week

I am using the sock but apparently a lot reefer chose not to. I was just curious what are the norm.

I'm shooting TM ELIMI RAPID (LaCl) into my skimmer neck to get PO4 to 0.1ppm and GFO to maintain between 0.04-0.1ppm. Don't make the mistake i made by using GFO when PO4 is high 0.4-0.5ppm, I burned through 1kg in a matter of days. I am waiting for my DVH AIO Biopellets to be active to bring my NO3 down... its at 45ppm currently.

That exactly what I use with a 10 micron sock. The 5 will clog up in about 30 mjns.

About how many percent of recommended dose you’re using? I have rox .08 and heard DO NOT USE full dose. I increased my dose from about 15% to now 30%.

Vodka + bactobalance + weekly PhosRX is my formula that I just stumbled on several weeks ago.

My zoas are fleshy as heck with my po4 method to maintain 0.1
I can’t dose vodka because I don’t wanna drop my nitrate lower than 10. Currently I am 15

My formula for my 220g'ish water volume

Vodka 80 proof = one capful every AM,using the cap off the vodka bittle

Bactobalance = 10ml every AM

weekly PhosRX = 30-50 drops every Sunday night. I test po4 with Hanna right b4 to determine how much to drop

End result =
No3 bounces btwn 10-12
Po4 around 0.1

ROX .08 is carbon right? I'm running ROWAPHOS (GFO), I'm adjusting accordingly to http://www.rowaphos-calculator.com. I stop LaCl once I'm at 0.1ppm, if not I just shoot 4ml daily into the skimmer neck.

Cool but again, use sock for the LC?

It is but just heard horror stories about it not to use full dose.
I put GFO in the upper chamber of my NYOS TORQ Gen2-2 LTR and biopellet in the lower chamber. So far it's working maintaining the PO4 at 0.07ppm.

So full recommended dose?
The bulk of the heavy lifting is done by LaCl gradually about 0.05-0.01ppm per day to bring to 0.1ppm. From there it's full dose GFO to keep it below 0.1ppm according to the rowaphos calculator. BUT if you decide to drop it from 0.3 to 0.1 using GFO i would do 20-30% and change out once exhausted.
