A while back, I had to remove all my fish & treat with Cupramine & let my tank go fallow for 76 days. I used to just qt new fish, but not treat unless I saw something during this time. Unfortunated, since I wasn' treating, parasites must have gotten into the system. I'm going to avoid that again at all costs.

Now every new fish has been getting treated with Cupramine & prazipro. It's been working fine, exept for large angels.

Try 1: I purchased a majestic angel from a LFS that qt & treated with copersafe for a month. He wasn't eating at the store but was assured by them that he was. Long story short, never ate & he flesh started peeling off, antibitics were used by died within 10 days.

Try 2: Another majestic purchased online. Placed in qt, ate day 1, never with gusto, but was eating. After about week, started Cupramine. Raising slowly (about 5 days to 0.4). Still eating the same. 5 days later just stopped eating and next day was on his side. I removed to a tank without copper, but next day was dead. Butterfly & anthias in treated tank were & still are fine.

I use the seachem ammonia alert & a cycled tank for my treatments, so no levels are jumping. I test cu with the seachem kit.

I treated my established flame angel in my original treatment of all fish & he did fine. Was I just unlucky that the 2nd was just possibly doomed? I'd like to get a juvenile empire this time, but don't want to kill another.

Thanks, read through all this info. The majestic has been the only fish I've lost during cupramine treatment.

I've been successful treating: blue-lined butterfky, Saddleback butterfly, pyramid butterfly, Pakistani butterfly, latticed butterfly, flame angel, leopard wrasse, blue throat trigger, 3 lyretail anthias, blue reef chromis, green chromis, yellow tang, hippo tang & long nose hawk.

Since it seams from reading that it may be a tiny bit safer, but no certainty, to use coppersafe. However, I have no experience with it that might make it worse. Also, this time I'd be getting the angel from a reputable lfs, not an online retailer, which arrived at a salinity of around 1.015. Maybe that had something to do with it.
