Just found a 2 to 3 inch limpet crawling around in the dark. Was not sure what it was when I found it. Did some research and ID it as it looks identical to the post listed below from LiveAquaria. It is in my 125 reef. Mostly LPS with only a few SPS, Birdsnest and large blue pocolipora. Has had to be there for awhile as have not added anything but frags to that tank for awhile. Watched him for a bit, appears to just be eating algae. Anyone ever had any experience with these?

Keyhole limpets are typically half an inch long, or smaller, and feed on unwanted filamentous algae, cyanobacteria, diatoms and even hydroids. Unfortunately, in the SPS tank they will also feed on the tissue of SPS corals.

Never knew they ate sps, this is good to know.

Are these also called elephant slugs?

I had a black one and it never ate SPS but that could just mean I had other things to graze on it liked better.

I now have a orange one that also has been SPS/coral safe.

This pic is elephant slug and totally different than a keyhole limpet.
They are completely reef safe, and a fantastic algae control critter. I

Thanks for the info, I have the elephant slug then. Picture is identical. Looking this morning at the area he was grazing on, never seen my rock and overflow area as clean as it is today. Puts my snails to shame. Who knows how long he has been in there, and close to 3 inches, he was not a hitchhiker on a frag plug anytime recently. Thanks again for the replies and info.
