Large Black Limpet?

Seems to be some sort of limpet maybe. I thought it was a nudibranch at first but it actually has a large shell, and it's been around at least 4 years.

Will need a better photo, at that size a limpets seems unlikely, maybe a chiton? @ISpeakForTheSeas?

I think chiton, but I do think that there was a specific nudibranch that has a similar shell, @ISpeakForTheSeas can probably tell you for certain though

Ah, found it. It may be a species of scutus snail/limpet, specifically scutus antipodes looks like a match to me, common name elephant slug

That's a Scutus sp. Elephant slug.

I can't find much info on them they appear to be harmless. Does anyone know any more about them

Scutus snail for sure, i have one in my reef and it's a model citizen.

those guys are excellent algae eaters and pretty cute looking when you see their face.

I agree that these are cool dudes. I have over a dozen.

According to my LFS owner, he’s pretty certain they’re harmless as he has dozens in his coral growout. He suspects they have been breeding in the system as well. No issues from him.
