large fish only tank or a smaller reef tank

I can’t currently afford to set up any type of saltwater tank, but for the future, would a 200-300 gallon fish only tank with large fish or a 55 gallon reef tank be more expensive?

larger tank = larger (or more) equipment. smaller tank = smaller (or less) equipment. it can also be the other way around, depending on what type of equipment/route you choose to go. a reef tank will require more care/maintenance, whereas a FOWLR would probably require less, depending on what livestock is in(more utility fish vs. display fish). there is the variable of water changes. will you be doing them? will you have your own RODI equipment? how simple vs. complicated you want to make things is ultimately how you'll get your answer.

Thank you, either option won’t happen for a while, but when I can afford it, I’m leaning towards getting a large fish only tank, I really like the emperor anglefish. I’ll probably get most equipment used from marketplace to save money.
