Ordered X large naso tang yesturday. Now im stumbled on what tank to use to quarantine. Fish is going to be 8-10" acording to live aquaria x large chart for naso tangs. I have 75 gallon 18x48" tank. I prefer not to set it up, I also have 20g tall tank. I'd like to use 20g for quarantine, but I'm afraid it will be to small for this fish.

I will use water from my main display tank, as well as some biomedia from my sump to seed the quarantine tank.
Can I get away with using 20G tall tank for this fish? Assuming it comes in alive. As I heard stories about live aquaria lately...

certainly you are right that a 20 gallon would be too small for an active fish of that size for a 2-3 week QT

I have a similar challenge to recover a re-homed vlamingi who is not even that size -and now that I am building a larger DT I plan to bring him back hope. The tank he has been in has a large regal tang that breaks and resolves an ich run every couple of weeks

was thinking of a 100 gallon horse trough as the QT set up

I got those before, but they are like $50, hate to spend this kind of money for one time use. And it's almost just as big as my 75g tank. Only reason why I don't want to set up my 75, is won't have access to service my main display tank for several weeks is I use it, couse only place I can put it is right by doors to my sump access.

$50 should be a small fraction of what you paid for the XL Naso.

The space limitation is a bigger deal if there is just no other place.

20G is way too small unless you are willing to take the risk.

It's going to be very hard to QT a X Large fish in a tiny tank as the stress of being in a small tank is going to freak him out.

Making sure a fish is comfortable and calm is one of the best ways of maintaining a fish's health. It doesn't matter what meds or methods you use in your QT procedure if the fish is stressed out in a tank it really can't swim in, the fish isn't going to settle down and be healthy.

I just picked up a similar box from Costco for 19 bucks. - going to cook some live rock

You can also get a water trough from tractor supply. That's what I used to quarantine about 20 fish at the same time

im going to see if i can manage my space somehow to put my 75g on floor.

Any time I’ve used a rectangle shaped tote for water they always bow out .
and stress and I have water all over the floor .

I’d suggest something round or as suggested above large water trough for horses .

finding somewhere to keep it is another issue I would have if it was me looking for a temporary quarantine
