Looking for some inspiration for increasing my production of brine shrimp. Right now using (5) 2 ltr. bottles on a 5 way gang valve. Mounted on a 2x4.

What do others use?

When you ask about increasing production I am assuming that you are referring to overall volume of live baby brine shrimp (BBS) rather than hatch rates.

There are several approaches that I have used over the years including the San Francisco Bay Hatchery Kit (which is a base for a standard 2 liter bottle), a DIY brine shrimp hatchery with a 5-gallon water bottle, and more. There are also other approaches like Imhoff hatching cones and the Aquabreed 1000 Complete. Also, I have seen fish farms and individual with a large number of tanks use 4-sided cones that look like the Brine Shrimp Hatcher, Hatch Rite 1™, from Florida Aqua Farms (I have no affiliation, have never purchased from this company, and have never used this product). Currently I use something that is similar to what is described on this YouTube video from the Joey at the King of DIY (www.youtube.com/watch?v=G2BKVhFgpVU). I like the redundancy with smaller bottle and I especially like the separate air hose connectors so that I can keep both the "air in" and the "BBS out" hoses connected all the time. Obviously this approach takes up more space especially if you scale to more than one set of bottle, but it works for me.

A couple of things to consider are how much BBS you will need - the 5 gallon was too much for what I could use at the time so that experiment was short lived! Also, think about timing and redundancy. Good luck!

Any ideas on a nano scale hatchery? Like one of the Aqua Medic reactors? I happen to have one.

I assume you are referring to the Aqua Medic Aquabreed Complete. I have used other similar nano breeders that I have had mixed results with, however I have not used that specific product. I have looked at the 1000 Complete in the past and there are several aspect of that product that I found interesting, however because I have many tanks I have stayed with what works and what I know. If you already have the setup then I would encourage you to give it a try, see what happens, and let us know what you find. Good luck!
