I picked up a few large Maxima clams at my LFS and one isn’t doing so hot. It’s very responsive but doesn’t come out too much. It’s foot has receded in. The LFS gave it a fresh water dip. They think it’s not doing as well as the others because it was sitting under a ledge not getting much light.

I bought some phyto (not live) to feed it. I originally had it higher up in my tank but because it doesn’t have much of a foot I have in the sand bed so that it’s not getting rocked with the current. What other steps could I take to give it a better chance at survival?

I added a picture of what the other looks like. The clam that’s not doing well is on the sandbed.

Probably not what you want to hear, but I bought one that looked like that last year and it survived maybe a month. Had tried FW dips and it just never looked right. The other 4 clams I have in my tank are still going strong, but that was the only wild collected maxima I had.

Hopefully yours is okay and just adjusting still.
