Hey guys, I've got a 300 tank, 450 system. I've got a large blonde naso that I've had for several months that all of sudden just stopped eating. All the rest of the tank members are eating fine. I've got no diseases and the parms look good. This is a FOWLR so there is no coral or inverts in the tank. I feed chopped shrimp, scallops, mysis and pellets three times daily. He even stopped eating nori. I'm stumped as to why he would all of sudden stop eating. He's not being bullied, just seems uninterested in food.

Has he been getting a constant supply of algae based foods, is your tank mature with micro algae. Naso's needs a constant algae suply, so one answer could be nutritional defiencency if not getting enough algae. Another could be damage caused if treated with copper or antibiotics during qt. Being caught with cyanide could also be a culprit, which shows up out of nowhere while otherwise seemingly healthy.

Thankyou for your update. He's not been in any copper or treatment of any kind since I've had him. The tank is six months old with some algae. I feed a full sheet of nori daily and he eats some of that but not aggressively like he did last month. Just seems to be slowly wasting away. I thought cyanide was a thing of the past and they don't use that for collection?

Cyanide is back but also try and provide fresh live macro algae. All are different which variety they will take, try various types of caulerpa and gracilaria. Naso' s are notorious to fade away znd many times it is diet related. 6 months is very young for a tank yo support a naso. Placing live macro around the tank for him to have a constant food source may help, frznkly nori just doesn't cut it.

I was going to suggest looking into that. I have used Prazi in a display. If you can get the tang to eat, people do treat with Metro + a binder in a display.

I didn't mention it before because he has had the fish for several months. But if a new addition brought something in, tangs aren't shy about eating poo.

I guess I could give a shot of prazi to the tank but none of the other fish seem bothered. I’d love to give them macros but there are none to be found in my area. I appreciate the responses to my request. Jerry

Hikari Mega Algae is a good algae food and live black worms sometimes triggers a good feeding response and is a good protein source.
