Large Puffer Compatibility

So I thought the idea of introducing a Guinea Fowl in with my Golden would be smooth sailing. He is about 10” long and she is a tad over 8”. He relentlessly attacked her. After about 18 hours I took her out and she went back down to a conditioning tank. She is fine.

so I have seen many tanks with more than one puffer .... am I wrong in this? I know each fish a unique personality.

I have a couple ideas on how to try again. Not too long ago I had an aggressive Annularis against a Imperator. I pulled the Annularis out for four months to allow the Imperator to get established and make it his tank. Reintroduced the Annularis with no problem. Would this technique work with the Golden? Of course I can use an acclimation box but honestly I wouldn’t be hopeful.

BTW it is a 650 display.

They are the same species, just a different color phase. The golden puffer starts out in the same spotted color phase as the guinea fowl. May be unlikely if you are able to have them co-habitat.

It has always been my understanding that indeed they are the same species, but the Golden is the male and the guinea fowl is the female. Am I mistaken??

I didn't think the color phase had anything to do with the sex. I thought it was just the evolution of change. I've also seen them in a molted phase as well, where they were changing from the spotted to the yellow. I've read articles about it, I just can't remember the details.

This was a retailer who told me this so who knows. Will look into it! Thanks
