Hello,

I am setting up for a 300 gallon upstairs with a 120 sump downstairs.

Right now I have a 2" return pipe (minimize restriction) and 3 x 1.5" bean animal.

I am also planning on setting up another 120 beside the 300.

My delima,

I have room for 2 x 1" pipes right now before drywall goes up.

I can T off the return no problem, I also don't mind T off the emergency drain.

Should I run the 2 x 1" pipes for the 120 or should I put a sump under the 300 that all the tanks drain into and then drain into the main 3 x 1.5" runs from there?

I would do my best to have everything drain into the basement. How much turn over are you trying to get into the sump?

About 3-4k.

Going to go with Hammerhead Gold.

The issue is the piping gets really gross if I put those extra 1" in there. I've already made enough holes in the wall :) I have a opening that *JUST* fits the width of those 3 x 1.5" and the 2" I can add the 2 x 1" but they end up going on top of the other pipes.

Any other opinions I have to make the decision in the next 3 days :)

Drywall is going up!

I like the idea of draining the DTs into one single chamber sump and then draining that once to the basement. I'd have redundant level sensors in the sump under the 300 that would turn off the return should that one sump under the display upstairs get full.

Thinking about the rest of the system, would you consider 1.25 or 1.5 inch drains from the 120 to upper sump? It looks like you want some real flow from the return. How do you plan to split the 2 inch return to the two tanks? Maybe you already have that figured out and aren't soliciting opinions. :)

Oh yeah, if I go with upstairs sump it will have 3x 1.5" to the lower sump

Both tanks will be 3 x 1.5" to the sump then 3 x 1.5" to downstairs.

Splitting returns will be done with gate valves and possibly metering the flow.

Sounds like you have a really good plan! Idk if you have an Apex but the FMM would be really neat to have on this setup to dial in the flow rate of the returns to each tank after the return is tee'd.
