Large System Q and A

Hello everyone. I'm researching what I need to set up a large aquarium after an upcoming move of house. I've been looking through the large aquarium threads and thought a large aquarium Q and A would be good for newbies like me to have somewhere to get advice and build knowledge towards having larger systems.

Hopefully we can build this thread to be a place for that, if some large system experts and people who keep large systems, can kick in with their experiences and knowledge please.

So join me in asking questions and let's see if this gets off the ground.

I'll kick it off with my first question. I'm looking to set up a 500gal DT with about 100-150gal sump/refugium. I've seen the NYOS quantum 300 skimmer. Do you feel it is suitable for this size system and are there any other skimmers you would recommend for it.

I have a 500 gal I'm setting up and I'm running a Vertex Alpha 300. I'm satisfied so far.

Next question I have is power heads for flow. I'm thinking of Maxspect Gyres xf250 or xf280 at each end wall of the 10' long tank with Ecotech Marines' mp40's or mp 60's spaced about every 2' along the back wall of the tank for cross flow from the back to the front (3' from front to back of tank). Which models of each do you feel would suit this planned set up? tank dimensions 120"x36"x30".
