Hey everyone, as it always does, the larger clownfish in my tank just kicked the bucket (while I'm away on vacation). I've got my dad watching my tank and he came in 2 days ago to see the clownfish being eaten by all my hermits. I knew it was coming as the larger clown has been swimming horizontally for about a month now for now good reason.

Once I get home I"ll be getting another clown to place in the tank but was wondering if I should get a bigger one to just replace the female, or find a smaller one so that it will stay the male, and the current one in the tank will change to the female.

Would appreciate any suggestions. Not sure if a clown left by itself for a week will rapidly change to female.

Thanks!

I had this happen with my pair of clowns also. I was told by several others that it's safer to add a smaller clown and let the one you have become the female

It is usually the safer option to get small male, especially if you plan to QT the new clown
