Anyone have suggestions for larger reef safe fish that aren’t tangs?

**for 180g mixed reef**

squareback and stocky anthias get pretty decently big

some wrasses can get pretty long and fairly girthy, some of which may not be super invert safe

some butterflys are in the reef safeish realm, yellow pyramid being pretty popular

I have a Pakistani Butterfly. So far after a few months he hasn't touched my corals.

When you say reef safe do you mean safe with corals or do you mean safe with corals/inverts and small fish?

If its just coral compatibility you could look into some of the smaller/medium sized lionfish species or some of the squirrel fish.

if with
I wouldn't call those last three wrasses reef safe.

Genicanthus angels are others to consider.
it won't eat coral. The Mel wrasse will eat crustaceans so tech its not reef safe either . it all depends on what you want to to keep. Ive seen lions in a reef tank.

A dwarf lion would be cool

Foxface for sure as they are big have a highly visible presence. They are technically "With Caution" but as long as they are well fed they are pretty safe. Much higher chances of success than Dwarf Angels for sure. As mentioned above Genicanthus Angels are another great choice (ie Lamarck's, Swallowtail, Bellus). For Wrasses there are lots of choices but I would definitely avoid Dragon Wrasses and the others mentioned (other than Melanurus) as they will definitely mow down inverts and possibly corals as well. If you want a Butterflyfish go with a Pyramid and if you are willing to take a bit of a gamble a Copperband or Longnose Yellow could work as well.

Blue throat triggers are amazing! Crosshatch are even cooler but very pricy!
