So I have an opportunity to upgrade my tank from a 95 to a 175. The guy said the system is up and running but very neglected to the point that he only has 1 surviving fish. He has plenty of rock and sand, problem is I know we can't move it with the sand in it, and it will be at least the weekend before I can set the tank up again. If any of the rocks have any corals u can set up a quick tank to keep them going. Wondering what the best method of transferring my current tank to that one will be.

I wouldn't worry about the sand, I would just pitch it and buy new sand. Depending how bad the condition of the tank you may wanna stabilize conditions before you move your existing stuff over.

The bigger tank will be completly broken down. I have no way to move 200 or so gallons of water. My 95 will be running till I'm ready to shift over. His live rock wich will be dry rock by the time I am ready to use it will be added slowly later. I guess I should screen out his sand to keep any cuc hiding in there. How much of a cycle would I get with new sand. Was planning on using all my live rock so was hoping I wouldn't have one

If this tank has been set up for a long time i would replace the sandbed since you will already have it broken down. With older sand you might have some problems when you disturb it. If you are going that big you will need more cured live rock. New tank will need to cycle before you add fish or corals.

I will have time between moves so curing the rock won't be a problem. Was thinking of putting in the new sand all my current rock and fish then adding new rock slowly. My thinking was it will be the same bio load as current tank. I know as I add more I will need more rock. Can take a piece of old rock and some sand out of my current tank and put in a 30g to get it kicked off
