Largest Colonies for Sale

IMO, indo has a greater variety in color and species than I've seen from Australia. I look at DD often and it seems like they keep cycling through the same couple of species and color variants. Indo definitely has a better selection of "deep water" acros and like Pedoconfuego said is see a lot more yellow acros coming from Indo than Australia.
That being said, what is ASD smoking? $450-550 is absolutely ridiculous for indo mariculture as is labeling every one of them as "rainbow". They won't be getting any of my money.
They do have 40-50% off sales monthly. $225 isn’t a terrible price for a 6” chunk of a rainbow Millie....

Exactly my thoughts and you get to pick exactly which ones you wnat instead of buying a full box and having some deaths and blah ones. but each their own opinion haha

I still think that most people are romanticizing the availability and awesomeness of wild Indo stuff. Mari dominated and was just blah for originality, but did offer some larger pieces to people who did not care if they got fresh types. Some of our LFS had smaller indo mari pieces for like $40.

DD has already had the best ones cherry picked. The echinata, cardus and other deepwaters from Australia are awesome. No doubt that indo had some nice pieces, but I think that everybody's memory of them surpassed what they actually were. Even the nice indos got cherry picked before they ended up at DD.

Truth is that you need both. I like me some Spath and other varieties that only seem to come in Aussie shipments.

This is way off topic, but I just got an Indo piece from the before the shutdown that was hiding out at a local LFS. They had it under dim LEDs for years and it just looked green. It was cheap. It is on the concrete plug still. It has been coloring up and it is going to look exactly like the RR Pink Cadillac. Kinda disappointed since I have a large colony of RR PC already, but it was a cool find.

All of this said, my Heart of the Ocean that I got from Peng was a wild Indo import.

Now you know where pink Cadillac is from.

None of thoes maricultures are 6” colonies. 2-3” is probably about right. Some of the green mille are maybe 4”. And they are not rainbows imo. I still think 225 is too much unless it’s one of the hot pieces they put in each box. I really hope everyone holds off on buying these so the prices fall quickly!

Actually they do usually have 6” colonies. There’s rainbow ones on there ;)

I can’t see the fuss or the rush about the indo, we just had the first batch we’re I am and they all looked overpriced and nothing special. Anyone that knows a thing or two about sps would never spend that much on a wild colony, chances of survival are minimal compared to any other aquacultured coral, just saying

Those mari-cultured mini colonies sold for $70-90 everywhere before the ban and now they want $400-500.

This is just as bad as the other vendors hacking them up and selling frags for 75-100+

People don't be the sucker to buy these..........be patient.

I'd stick with the Aussie colonies for now.............at least you can get a 4-6" colony for $100-300
The Tonga colonies are in the 70-90 range and are the same size of the indo colonies.

Same coral color and species.........one pic is heavy blue and photo enchanced/shopped.........the other isn't. the DD coral is more than double the size as well......... many vendors sell the Aussies.

Its sad seeing the market like this Big E. But we have to accept these monopoly trend. Its common for all these big name vendor to bring in corals, chopped them up and rename them with a heavy price tag.

If your near san jose I visited an LFS that had some good size indo sps colonies for great prices. But not sure they ship. Clear water aquarium.

With the whole mark up thing. Indo raised there prices 50% after the ban, period. Then you have people pricing high to get the people who are afraid that indo is going to shut down again. The market isn't going down anytime soon.

I won’t start debating about rainbow corals because that’s a never win situation. But a rainbow coral to me needs four dominate colors. Their Indo acros are still pale from shipping it seems but he did a good job hiding that in the pictures. Some might look rainbow like now but I don’t see any that won’t be just two colors once growing in a tank.

Indo raised their pricing 50 percent after the ban? I don’t see that being true. If at all I would guess 10%. Local shops wouldn’t be selling colonies for 75-100 if they were double what they used to cost.

And to the op, I believe Tonga will ship very large colonies. 5-6 extra large colonies per box or something like that. Careful because they don’t ship very well.

every thread I have seen on here about indo coming in has stated that the suppliers have added 40-50% on prices before the ban. So 1.5 times what it used to cost.

update: 30-40% markup. I had over exaggerated with 50%. https://www.reef2reef.com/threads/indo-export-update.679089/post-6953906

How much were they?

@jda my sentiments exactly! Even if my experience in the hobby has been only a solid 10 yrs since this upcoming may.. I still know Indo was never coveted like Aussie. Nothing was. Especially lps.. so even the torch thing should have people looking sideways at some of these vendors
