Well I've got four fish I want to put in DT today, fox face. Kinda big purple tang, small yellow tang and a hock fish. All have gone through copper and two rounds of GC. The small yellow tang has a little split in his bottom fin. Maybe from the big purple tang? Just wondering if I made a mistake buying the purple tang are they aggressive? Jut woke him up for a pic lol he looked great yesterday.

Have you noticed any aggression between the two?

Both purple and yellow tangs would fall in the aggressive category in my book, officially probably considered by semi-aggressive. Fin tears could be due to aggression or other issues.

Haven't seen anything real bad just a little tail flashing when I first put the purple in with yellow. Should I keep the yellow in QT and see if it gets worse?

Small fin tears, ime, are common with tangs and heal just fine in time.

The yellow and purple are close cousins. They are both somewhat aggressive, but could tolerate each other depending on display tank size, swimming room, high flow, and enough food.

Definitely add them at the same time. If you try putting the yellow in after the purple it will be destroyed. A yellow and a purple may not work together long term regardless though. If it were me, I’d decide which I liked better and sell the other.

Well I have a 180g Dt with 2 sailfin tangs, 1 darjini tang, 1 blue tang, 3 yellow tangs, 1 yellow eyed kole tang, and a chocolate tang. All tang are model citizens half of them sleep together it so beautiful when they swim together. All fish were added at different times. Lost my clown tang 2 months ago could not get him to eat. I will be adding 3 purple tangs to the tank this summer.
