Ok Folks I've been working on a 180 tank. I'm taking my time with this and improving on my last 220 tank. So I started with is.

I have since added sand & 40 lbs of dry base. Been ghost feeding a little. I had NO idea this rock would take SO long to cook. It's very close & probably ready to go. However, after this long of a wait? I want to see if I can get the readings to zero. I have 2 barrels with around 180 lbs of differing rock I've had for a very long time.
So in barrel 1, No3 ,2 Po4 o.2.Let's see if I can find a recent pic. HPIM8524.JPG

HPIM8321.JPG Thai is where the old 220 was. I tore this old stand out painted everything, walls ceilings etc. Yes that was a huge plywood sump. It faithfully held water for a good 10 years !

Cough Cough, Man , it's dusty in here haven't opened it in a while ! So without further ado, The 180 !

The entire system holds 198 gls. I have right around 160 lbs of LR in it. There is room for more but I like the open space. Hoping I can use other means of nutrient export. This will be a Fish tank with a few softies. we don't need no corals in this one ! LOL I used 1 1/2 inch pvc pipe to raise the base rock out of the sand bed. Will have to take some sand out maybe. There are 3 separate rock plies which I must say it came out looking very good.
Alos I took care to weigh all the rock and measure the water displaced. I started this last July 4th ! I had no idea that cooking old LR could take so long !
So I chose a Fish tank because keeping this big amount of water right for corals . I have a 75 that I'm honing my coral skills. Still have a long way to go but I got thru the 1st step. See Ya'll soon !

Good evening ! This tank has been going somewhat since August last year. Back then, I added sand & 46 lbs of base rock, got the salinity right and started ghost feeding. Just the leftover food from the 75 . So I just tested for the 1st time.
Am 0
No2 O
No3 1
I also added a small sized oyster yesterday to maybe get something going . Remember I just put 160 lbs of cooked LR. I assume there is some bacteria still alive in the rock. I think it needs to be fed . I'm not sure if I should put a lot of food like a small finger mullet or whole shrimp to start a strong cycle or just feed it a little more each time & keep an eye on the nitrates ? I'm in no hurry at all to put any livestock in this tank. Foremost on my mind is to "not" hurt the life in this old LR,what little is left. I will decide tomorrow which way to go . This the 1st setup where nothing came from an outside source except of course the old rock that was kept in total darkness for over 8 months. I mean like a piece of Lr from an existing tank & such. Any OP's ? Thank's !

p.s. I can answer pretty much any questions You may have .

Good evening Everybody ! I added a pair of mated Clowns 2 week ago. ended up with a tiny amount of Am ! A couple of big water changes took care of that. The fish are out & about eating well. I do see the beginnings of HA ! This seriously ticks me off ! I started running the 3 fixture as low as possible then I started staggering the lights every 3 days left, center ,right then repeat to starve it from light. I have very low nutrient levels, No recent readings at this time. Thanks !
