Check it out! Here's my latest frag rack. Legs are 100% stable, and I can fit a frag plug above the pillars too! Previous Racks had legs held in place by zip ties which were not as stable and prevented the 4 corners from being used. In my backup nano-tank, this is valuable space!!

As mentioned in other threads, I'm a fan of the Coral Cradle. If you do it right (I.e. use the right eggcrate and orientation -- tapered w/ the thin side down), the plugs *almost* lock into place!

In fact, in the last shot, a Rack is being held up *by the plug*!

I used 3/4" PVC for the pillars, made initial slits w/ a hack saw for preciseness, then cut along the same path with a wood saw to make the channels wider.

Top down, notice the upper-left corner with plug in place:

Enjoy!

PS: No, that is not my hairy arm in the last shot...

PPS: Yes, my arms are harier! ;)

gotta love that rack.. awesome job man.. I have a similar set up in my nano.. it's amazing how many plugs you can fit in there.. for mine, I can fit more than 80 small plugs on a 12g JBJ nano.. :)

Thx guys!

They should work great with the toothpick/rubberband method...

I've yet to try that - but need to! On mine, I took some fishing line and utilized the 4 holes. After I got the technique down of how to tie it quickly, it works pretty well. But I imagine the toothpick would be quicker/easier?

sweet frag rack! sweet frags! any for sale or trade? :D What are you using to light the tank?

Gettin close on a couple - but I'm not quite ready yet! :D This tank uses a 14K Phoenix 150W w/ VHO actinic. It's a small tank I made to fit a particular space on my work desk.

Here's the latest shot of it:

And it's build info is here:

The specs on that link are WAY out of date though, heh! I'm actually a little embarassed about all of the equipment I have on this tank!!! :happy5:

it's amazing how many plugs you can fit in there..

Indeed!!! This is a 30"L x 12.5"D x 10.5"T and with lots of wiggle room, the three racks in there can house 130 frags!! And then I have some lower-light frags underneath that to boot, ha!

Nice rack!! Nice hair too. :)

It's my fake sun-tan... ;)

I wonder if I could build something like that as a "roof" over my Mantis' rockpile home. Do you think he'd remove the frags & add them to his house?

heres my frag rack, the best use i ever got out of a power sweep was the holder :hammer:

Very good idea Who Dah!!

Do you think the idea could be used to make a multi level setup?

I have just finised my 40gal. breeder frag tank and am ready to build the racks. I was thinking of going 3 high with racks that get narrower as they go up. I think I will give your idea a try.

Thanks for the inspiration!!

follow3: sure, I don't see why not? :D If you were willing to loose the corners frag spot, you could perhaps make the pillars both on top and bottom of the lower frag rack by gluing the pillars on only 1/2 way through the eggcrate on each side or something. It's pretty stable and I think it could handle it well.

Looks great Jeremy! Just a idea that I use to get a little funky with the racks you may enjoy. If you have the room, try and use the "Tees" "T" for the feet. Then you get little fish and critter hideouts...they seem to really enjoy the hiding spots.

Peace, Bryan
